Lusamine Pokeball

Lusamine looked down on her daughter. Ugly little Lillie was beaten into the rock floor that comprised UB-01’s realm. And besides her was that disgusting Selene. The two of them and their bruises matched, as much as anything so discordant and horrible could.

She was content to let them lie there in their anguish but Selene’s body started to quiver, and then the trainer’s hand pushed her up so that she could level a determined glare at Lusamine.

“Don’t look at me like that. You don’t deserve to even so much as glance at my beautiful, perfect world.” Lusamine let loose a horrible screech from UB-01’s mouth, voicing her pain at these terrible intruders not just laying down to die. They needed to stop, to be gone, so it could just be her and her beautiful pokemon.

Lillie too wouldn’t give up, that treacherous spawn of hers. “Mother, stop. You have to break free of its control. Nihilego is using you.”

Of course it was using Lusamine. She wanted to be used. It was so transcendental to be joined to its purpose, to be one like this. So beautiful that she could almost cry.

“Stupid child, give up. Or leave. It matters not.” She swung a tentacle at the two of them, only for it to be interrupted by Selene’s Decidueye. Lillie got up on her feet again. “I won’t.” Selene placed a helpful hand on her shoulder. “We won’t. We’re here to save you and we won’t leave without you!”

Lusamine and her partner struck again, knocking out the Decidueye. Its battered body was flung into the wall. Selene wailed in horror, but that didn’t stop her from releasing another pokemon. And another. And another.

They all fell before Lusamine and UB-01’s combined might.

“You really are such a pitiable child, Lillie. Throwing a tantrum like this when you can’t get your way.” Lusamine drew closer, floating over to loom above the two. “And you, Selene, are somehow even more wretched. Not even a word to say in your own defense? Aiding and abetting someone else’s dreams without any real reason? Just give up you empty doll.”

As soon as she said it, she knew that was the real reason she felt nothing for them. For her daughter or her friends. They were empty. They were dolls. Just little voids in the shape of men that tried to assert their meaning and fail. This was true ugliness and she wanted it gone.

She raised up her tentacle and slammed it down. But before it could connect, a pokemon in the shape of a moon emerged from behind Lillie. Was this the evolution of the Cosmog that her daughter stole from her? Lusamine didn’t have more than a moment to react before it charged up a psychic beam and fired it at her and her companion.

Luckily UB-01 was able to deflect it with a well placed Protect. This one… this one seemed stronger than all the others the two had sent out to fight her. Almost like it had some beauty and power of its own, something that might even rival her own pokemon. No. Unthinkable.

The joined pair screeched their disgust. Yet another intruder had joined the fray and it would suffer the same fate as all the others.

Only it didn’t. Instead the two fought to a standstill, one unable to best the other.

Was it possible? Was there another pokemon that could be called beautiful?

Lusamine gripped her head in agony.

All of UB-01’s tentacles came together to form a circle. They spun around in a dizzying pattern, forming a glowing purple oval between them. And then it fired it at the two humans. The moon pokemon rushed in to defend its own companions, placing itself in between the projectile and them. And it didn’t work. All three of them entered its embrace as the portal enclosed upon them. In its wake, nothing remained, just the cold hard ground of the crystalline cavern was left.

Gone. Gone. Gone.

They were gone. The intruders. Lusamine felt UB-01’s content as it calmed once more. Her beautiful alien jellyfish pokemon was once again back to its most beautiful serene nature.

She sighed. And then she was deposited, released from UB-01’s embrace unto the ground, the pokemon returning to its normal form as well.

“What?” She looked up at her formerly joined companion. “Why?” Why did it not want to be with her, perfectly entwined like they were one being? Two halves becoming one whole.

It chimed its meaning.

Oh. She understood.

She… she was ugly too.

She wanted to deny it, to rail against fate. But that would have been compounding ugliness to deny the truth. No, she would be honest. How could she deny the reality her UB-01 was so graciously giving to her? Impossible.

So she knew that she was ugly, that she didn’t deserve to be part of the divine beauty of her pokemon. But she could still be part of it in another way.

She picked up the pokeball she had used to house UB-01 for that briefest of times. How could she have even dared to believe it could truly be captured unless it had so desired? No, this little ball had a much better use it could be put towards.

She breathed deep of the odorless scent of her enclosure. She was in a crystal cavern with her owner. Lusamine looked up and saw the alien jellyfish hovering over her, observing her just as she was observing it.

She wept.

This was happiness. Pure, incandescent happiness.

“Lusamine.”

Her owner chimed its own joy. For Lusamine was not alien to it, no intruder. She was its possession. Its toy. Its doll.

Human words. How did her owner know how to speak? Oh. It had taken them from her. Her speech. Her knowledge. It was her owner’s now. It had already been more intelligent than most humans, if only in a different alien manner. But now it could parse human conceptions. She wasn’t quite sure how she knew this, but it was clear in her mind. The pokeball had been designed to strip even the knowledge that she was once human away, but it seemed like her owner wanted her aware of her past.
