Luck's Hunger

Luck floated in the void, distracted by the scent of something delicious. She had wanted to spend some time meditation on the mortal that Justice had adopted, deciphering what had been done to make him almost imperceptible to her, but no amount of mediation make her ignore such a mouth-watering smell.

It was the delightful scent of misfortune, a feast that would sustain her for days.

Normally Luck would be able to close her eyes and reach out with her power, locate the mortal on whom she would feast, and gorge herself. This time, however, her prey made little sense. In one moment it would be in one location, in the next, it would be in a distant land. Three times she thought could smell it in the void, as if that could ever happen.

Unless...

Justice, her errant sister, had taken a pet. Could it not be so that another in the family had followed suit? Who would act so foolishly as to take a mortal with them as they travelled? Lust had always enjoyed control, perhaps she had taken interest in someone she could manipulate. Perhaps even Order had been drawn out by Justice's antics, and had taken a mortal to serve her.

Still, why would any of Luck's sisters choose someone so rich in misfortune? Whoever the mortal was, and whichever of Luck's sisters they served, they would be suffering greatly. Only one completely saturated in mischance would smell as alluring.

The scent drew near to Luck's resting place once more, and once more it vanished before she could find it, moving on to another part of the world. Yes, a pet for one of her sisters. It was the only explanation. But unlike with Justice, Luck would be ready. She would not be denied her feast again. This mortal would be a sweet delicacy to savour, and a filling meal to devour.

Again the scent moved, raising Luck's ire. She would have this mortal. She would be sated.
