Lt. Megan Smith, Navy Helicopter pilot

The South Pacific, 1965.

“How the hell did we get this lost?” Lt. Smith asked. “We’re a good 200 clicks outside the recovery zone…”

“I don’t know…” her co-pilot, Lt. Lyndsey Romaine said “it was an emergency abort, maybe she lost control.”

The two were on a spotting mission to find a space capsule

“We need to head back to the carrier, we’re running low on fuel.

“We still have 1/4 of a tank…” Lt Romaine said.

“We had a 1/4 of a tank 2 hours ago.” Lt. Smith said

“Oh fuck…”

Megan quickly got them a heading to their base, the USS Evergreen.

But less then ten minutes later, they heard a loud bang as the engine used up the last of its fuel.

The helicopter began to spin wildly before crashing into the ocean…
