The laugh burst out of Reed before he even felt it coming. It was cold, void of the warmth that normally characterized one. Once the first one came, a cascade of them followed like water breaking through a damn from a single leak. Reed chuckled silently, the darkness of the closet beginning to constrict around him, cutting him off from the world. Or maybe it was just what the world had become. Maybe the sun had finally set on humanity, and now the night was hear to usher in a new world.

It wasn’t fair. Reed clung desperately to what had been, the only thing illuminating the darkness. Why did it have to end up like this? What grave mistake put humanity on this path to their own destruction? Reed always assumed it would be war or environmental catastrophe that would finally collapse civilization, sex crazed zombies hadn’t been on his bingo card. But that’s what fate had decided on. To hand pick a series of events to line up perfectly to bring about the hell Reed was experiencing.

And maybe the only way through hell was to accept it. There were worse ways to die than having your brains literally fucked out by a busty girl you were into. And was it even dying? You kept on living, just with a new purpose. His friends would still be here, just changed, but they would all still be together. Reed could see a path forward now, the only path as far as he could see. all he had to do was slide the lock back, and accept the new order.

“Don’t lie to yourself,” a voice rang through Reed’s body, “You’re trying to justify this, but all you’re doing is taking the easy way out. What happened to helping Ruby, huh? You could have just let her fuck you in the hallway, but instead you ran, because you know this isn’t right. You have to save her, find a way to cure her so she’s not stuck as some whore for the rest of her life. What about Chris, Ellie, Me? You just going to abandon us to fight on our own? Don’t be a bitch, you’re folding before the rivers even been dealt.”

Reed felt something change. It was a bizarre feeling, the closest thing Rees could think of would be the feeling of surfacing from underwater. He felt his senses sharpen and take in the world with more focus. The gears in his head began to turn faster, working through the grime that had slowed them down. Reed could finally breathe again.

Exhausted, he collapsed against the wall again, head cocked to the side, pressed against the cool wallpaper.

“I must be losing my mind, if I’m hearing people who aren’t even here,” Reed thought dumbfounded, “But it’s better than losing it for sure I guess.”

Voice Kami was right though. Giving up would not only be giving up his own life, but the lives of his friends as well. Reed felt his mind whirring, a new set of batteries powering him. His dread and horniness were both slowly trickling out of him, replaced with a newfound sense of purpose and drive. He would survive this and try to save as many of his friends from a undead fate in the process.

Although Reed was getting a little ahead of himself. First he would have to figure out how to get out of this damn closet, with a zombified Ruby still scratching to get in.
