Lovers for tonight

Your lips parted, and you both turned to watch the magnificent fireworks exploding over the village. Your fingers were tightly entwined, a silent promise hanging between you after the solemn agreement you'd just made. The earlier conversation about the book, the Shunshin travel, and even the pleasant meal at Genmai-Ai seemed like a lifetime ago.

Shizune leaned her head against your shoulder, watching the colors paint the night sky.

"Naruto-kun," she murmured, her voice soft but firm, carrying the confidence of the woman who had just confessed her deepest feelings. "We're alone here, on the Fourth's head, and tonight, you agreed that we are just a man and a woman."

You squeezed her hand in response. "Just me and you, Shizune-chan. Nothing else matters right now."

"Good," she whispered, pulling back just enough to look you in the eye. "Then... will you come back to my house with me?"

She searched your face, her expression earnest and ****. "For tonight, I don't want to be the older sister, or Tsunade-shishou's assistant, or a seasoned shinobi. I want you to be my lover."

You looked at the beautiful woman in your arms, the woman you had scooped up and carried through the air, the one who found the village view "beautiful". The genuine affection you felt was overwhelming. You knew you had already decided, but hearing her invite you sealed the commitment.

"Yes, Shizune-chan," you said, your voice low and sincere. "I will be your lover tonight."

A radiant smile spread across her face, eclipsing the light of the fireworks. She stood on her toes, pressing another soft kiss to your lips.

"Then let's go," she said, pulling your hand toward the edge of the monument. You knew her place wasn't far from the village square, a destination you had been aware of even before you arrived early tonight.

You smiled back, filled with a deep, exciting joy, and together you departed the Hokage Rock.
