Chapter 6 by 24ward 24ward

Can you overcome the panic?

Lost!

It's midday, and the heat is stifling. The forest becomes more and more wild, and the path more difficult to follow. The canopy of the trees thickens, blocking the sun and surrounding you with shadows. Exhaustion begins to set in as you scramble over a giant log and onto some boulders. You hear gurgling beneath your feet, and notice water flowing between the boulders. **** for a drink, you spend a couple of minutes moving among the boulders, eventually finding a place to safely lower yourself to the stream. Relief washes over you as you quench your thirst with handfuls of frigid water, then splash your face and neck. In your enthusiasm, you've splashed water down your chest, and your damp blouse clings to your breasts.

"It's so hot out here!" you gasp, looking around. The only noise is the water flowing by and the insects buzzing above. Doubt creeps into your mind, and you start to wonder if you're cut out for this adventure business; wouldn't you be better off back in good old comfortable Eldar?

You climb back up the boulder and look around. You realize with a sinking heart that you don't know where the trail is. In your haste to find your way down to the water, you wandered away from your link to your village. Panic sets in as you realize you don't know where to go or how to get there. You are completely lost!

You stand there for a moment, wondering what to do next. You're pretty sure you know which direction Eldar is; you head through the underbrush in that direction, and hope you find the trail. Looking in the opposite direction, you think you see light in the distance: it could be a break in the forest, maybe a clearing. Or you could head upstream or downstream.

Which direction?
