Chapter 5 by ClownGirls

How does he spend the afternoon?

Looking for bonuses

As soon as Monokuma left, Makoto scoured the page for more bonuses. If they were a necessity, he had to find out what they were. Junko's was to just learn her name, he figured it wouldn't be too hard. If he asked, she'd probably tell him, right? He checked Sayaka's trigger list next.

Sayaka Maizono's Triggers:

  • Psychic (Active): If directly asked, Sayaka will tell you everything on her mind.

This time there wasn't another link. Were the bonus questions hidden in different places? Were they unlocked at different times? He then checked her profile page, a new section opened after he'd completed the first action.

Sayaka Maizono considers her dream more important than anything else. If pushed too far, she could lash out.

He frowned, still nothing. There weren't any hidden links in the text either, he determined after rapidly tapping each letter. The rest of the girls didn't have any triggers unlocked, so their pages were all blank. Tomorrow, he decided, he'd have to unlock as many of them as he could. As for now, his only lead was Junko's real name. Still unsure what that meant he headed out on the hunt.

Without any real leads, he had **** but to aimlessly walk around the halls. It took a few minutes of searching before he realised nobody was around. "Uh... h-hello?" His voice pointlessly echoed through the empty school. "Where is everyone."

"Makoto!" An arm flew around his shoulders, pulling him into a hug. "You totally missed it, for serious!"

He jumped, spinning around to see Hiro. "Missed... what?"

"We got another whole floor!" He grinned. "Come on, check it out!"

"Uh, sure...?" Makoto stumbled along, coming to the previously barred-off staircase. "So what happened?"

"Monokuma popped up, like, outta nowhere. He went on about how one of us unlocked a 'new level' or something. I totally thought it was a video game thing but Kyoko figured out the second floor was open." Makoto ground his lip between his teeth. If doing more triggers opened more floors, the bear had to have been restructuring things around him.

"Cool... Let's go check out the new floor, I guess. Is that where everyone is?"

"Eyup, I was just grabbing some snacks from the warehouse."

"Warehouse?"

"Yeah just by the dorms. Here, let me show you!" He spun on his heels and started back the way they came.

Makoto tilted his head. "I thought we were going to the new floor?"

"Oh you go ahead, I'm kinda hungry, gonna grab a snack." Hiro chuckled.

Alone, he just headed upstairs. Immediately the smell of chlorine filled his nose, there had to be a pool somewhere nearby. He decided to head left, coming to a pair of doors. Through them, he could hear voices. Before he decided to head through, he hesitated at the sight of a massive roof-mounted machine gun.

"Scary, right?" A familiar squeaky voice said. "But don't worry, it's not for you..."

"What's that mean?"

Monokuma giggled. "Your handbook can get into both locker rooms if you so wish."

"Why would I... ew, gross."

"I know it's the dream of every teen boy, so go nuts." Just as abruptly as he appeared, the bear vanished. Rolling his eyes, Makoto swiped through the blue door.

"Yo, Makoto. Check this out." Leon grinned, standing over Mondo. The biker proceeded to bench press more than Makoto even weighed. "Awesome, right?"

"Uh, yeah. You guys seen Junko? I wanted to, uh, check on her..."

"Pssh..." Mondo dropped the weight on his stand. "Who knows, bein' cooped up in here prolly made the chick snap."

"I don't know, man. It's kinda hot, right?" The redhead smirked. "I mean, a hottie like her walking around completely commando... imagine what else she'd do."

"Don't stick your dick in crazy, man." He huffed. "We ain't seen her, dude. Sorry."

"It's alright. I'll, um... keep asking around."

With a shrug, Makoto pushed on through to the pool room. A wave splashed him immediately, drenching his clothes through. When he finally shook the water from his eyes, he witnessed something insane. Sakura and Aoi were racing back and forth, crossing the Olympic-sized pool in just seconds. Tidal waves were left in their wake. A whistle blow snapped him out of it. "And that's Aoi's win again," Taka shouted.

"Well done, Hina." The martial artist said, treading water.

"You're easily the best swimmer I've ever faced though! Well, my brother's pretty good, but you're definitely at least second."

"What's going on here?"

"Ugh, Makoto." Aoi pouted. It seemed like she was still upset from the morning.

"Right, s-sorry Aoi. I wasn't actually talking to you... when I said that."

"It doesn't matter! You shouldn't guess about things like that! About any girl!"

"N-No, it was a misunderstanding! I was actually, um... thinking about Celeste's--"

"My what?" She asked, right behind him.

"Your drills... ack!!" He jumped away, flying right into the pool. He splashed around for a few seconds, his clothes weighing him down. An arm grabbed him, lifting him effortlessly out of the water.

"Hell of a lifeguard you are." Aoi rolled her eyes at Taka, holding Makoto in one arm. She laid him flat on the edge, slamming down on his chest. He tried to tell her he didn't need it, but each slam knocked the air from his lungs. She leaned in for the mouth-to-mouth, hovering right over his lips.

Taka suddenly shouted. "Hina, your form is sloppy! It is no longer standard practice to resuscitate without a mouth guard!"

"Do you see a mouthguard!? Makoto is dying!"

"I'm not dying!" He managed to get out. "I'm fine..."

"Makoto! Phew, I was worried... sorry for being a jerk earlier." She blushed, standing up. He followed her to his feet, coughing up the last bit of water. "Celeste! Say sorry too!"

"I did nothing wrong." The goth crossed her arms. "And for your consideration, none of my hair is fake."

I really doubt that. He kept that to himself. "Why aren't you in a swimsuit?"

"I could ask the same of you. Though I presume the answer is the same, I am merely here as a spectator." She glared into his soul.

"Alright, whatever... have you guys seen Junko?"

"Yes! She was being a dutiful student, reading in the library." Taka laughed.

"Are you going to check on her?" Sakura was still treading in the pool, slower than Aoi to reach him. "When I approached her, she was quite... combative. The energy on that one is dangerous."

"It's alright, I... just want to anyways." Makoto nodded, heading back to the locker room. Only in there did he realise he was leaving a dripping trail behind him. He didn't have a change of clothes in the room either. With a sigh, he just made his way to the library.

Inside a few people were gathered around a laptop on the table. "No... I don't think it's work anytime soon."

"Then make yourself useful elsewhere." Byakuya chastised the small programmer.

"Hey, um... is Junko in here?"

"Does it look like she is?" He sneered. "Get out before you drench every book in here."

"Right, sorry..." The luckster frowned, quickly shutting the door. "Where'd she go...?"

"Makoto, right?" Kyoko was the third person to appear behind him today. "Junko took her book and left after Byakuya began making a scene. I don't think she went too far."

"H-Huh... thanks." He mumbled. "Do you know where?"

"Sorry, I can't." She squinted for a moment, looking into his eyes. "But I'm sure you'll figure it out."

Makoto sighed, looking around. He doubted somebody would bring a book to the locker room, nor the washroom. He peeked his head into one of the classrooms, seeing the back of a blonde head. "Finally..."

"Hm? Makoto, why are you...?" She quickly shut her book. "What are you, um... hi?"

"Hey, Junko. I was just... after this morning, are you alright?"

"Ugh, why does everyone keep asking me... does it look like I'm not?"

"Well, it was just quite a scene." He shrugged.

"So? I ditched my panties, who cares? I don't know why I was even wearing them, I hate them... they're so tight." So it did help her. "I feel a lot better now, so go away, wet boy."

"Well, I wasn't really worried... I guess you're allowed to do it if you want to." Makoto took a seat beside her. "I actually have a weirder question..."

"No more weird questions. Hifumi and that redhead guy were already super weird."

"Leon? Wait, no it's not like that... I was just wondering, is... is Junko Enoshima your real name?"

"Huh!? O-Of course it is... I'm Junko Enoshima, duh." She fished a magazine from her purse. "There's a bit of editing but we totally have the same face you idiot!"

"N-No I get that, you're obviously the real Junko Enoshima... but, I was just wondering if that was a stage name." He asked, she noticeably calmed down after. "Like, I get some celebrities change their name to be more marketable or make it easier to retire or something... is that it?"

"Oh, um..." She laughed. "Um, you're actually right. My real name is... wait, promise not to tell anybody first!"

"I promise!"

"Okay, my name is Ryoko Otonashi..." She sighed. "Well, not really. It's kinda another alias. I don't actually remember Jun- my real name."

"Huh? Oh, that's... really sad. A-Are you sure you can't remember?"

"Well, my parents weren't expecting... er, I... I don't want to talk." She quickly changed her tone. "Just forget it all, okay? D-Don't say anything."

"Huh...?" She stormed out, leaving him to ponder. He pulled out his tablet, opening back to Junko's bonus page. Part of him considered entering 'Ryoko Otonashi' in the box, but it seemed too big of a risk. If he got it wrong and the killing game was back on, this would all be for nothing. For now, he'd wait for a more definite answer.

He realised she'd left her book and magazine. The mag was just one of her fashion showcases, something he'd never find himself reading, while the book was just a fashion catalogue. When he grabbed them, though, the book's jacket slipped off. Inside was a military sci-fi novel, the third in a series. It seemed the exact opposite of something Junko Enoshima would read, but he was always a terrible judge of that. Still, why hide it by swapping the book's jacket?

With more questions than answers, Makoto headed back to his room to get some rest.

How are tomorrow's actions?
