Chapter 10

What's next?
Look out! Here comes the...
The rest of the night was quite eventful for Susan after that. By the time she had returned home around 2 AM, she had stopped three muggings, a robbery and assisted in a police chase that reduced a speeding sportscar to a webbed-up jalopy hanging upside down, along with the three bank robbers struggling in a cobweb overhead of it.
Waving back to the police and heading back to the Baxtor building, Susan crawled up the slope of the skyscraper back to the exterior door just outside the hanger gate and snuck back inside. Closing the door behind her, and making sure it was locked, Susan headed to the hanger bay entrance when she paused and looked down at her arm.
“Whoops! Almost forgot.”
With but a thought, her costume melted away, reshaping itself into a set of sleep wear that fitted her perfectly.
“There we go…”
Sneaking down the hall back to her shared bedroom, Susan found Reed fast asleep, smiling down at his slumbering face as she pulled the bedsheets up and spooned in close to the man, smiling more deeply as she felt him press up against her and instinctively accept her arm snaking over to wrap around his chest. Eventually, closing her own eyes and sighing as she let sleep claim her.

Two weeks later…
Standing in front of the coffee brewer as she waited patiently for her hot chocolate to be finished by HERBIE, Susan opened her mouth to be covered by her hand, stifling a yawn after a long night of stopping muggers and purse snatchers again. But as busy as she was and how late she got back home… 3 AM last she checked the clock, she never felt better, OR more fulfilled. She wondered how and why Spider-Man kept so busy day and night and it only took the first few days for her t understand. First being it got hectic out there. Oh sure, dealing with Molemen, the Skrulls, the Kree and occasional spats with Doom were tough, but that was maybe once a week, a month tops.
Had she known all this crime and danger were going on just at street level of her own home, she’d have been going around all night every night cleaning up her own neighbourhood. And second? It felt GOOD! It felt amazing helping the city one person at a time, it felt empowering stopping a fire and saving an entire family. It gave her a deeper appreciation for Spidey and how he and the rest of the costumed heroes in New York sacrificed day in and day out helping as best they could.
Hearing the ding of her hot chocolate ready to serve, Susan looked down with a smile of delight to the mug of steaming hot chocolate with marshmallows floating on the surface. Picking up her drinking and blowing into the creamy drink to cool the surface, Susan was about to take a sip when her ear perked at the news in the living room.
“We’d like to start the morning’s report with a special bulletin regarding a new spider-themed hero swinging around New York city.”
Hearing the news talk about her, Susan blew at her drink as she fumbled out of the kitchen to take a seat next to Ben and Johnny watching the morning report. Once she was sitting, she smiled with the mug obscuring her lip to the photos and iPhone videos of her saving people at night. Her stark black and white costume standing out in the street lights as she snatched up a pair of robbers fleeing a store, only to get pulled up into the air and spun into cocoons of black cobwebs and left to hang up in the air by a street lamp.
“This new street heroine has been making waves on social media with her bright demeanor on such dark nights.” Explained a well-dressed anchor staring up at the camera with the video still playing in the background.
“That’s right Tom.” Piped in the red-haired anchor woman. “Move over Spidey, there’s a NEW web-head in town and she’s a REAL looker!”
Showing more picture of the white clad Spider-Woman waving and smiling at the camera, Ben whistled from his seat and Johnny could only shake his head with a “Wow.”
Hearing them both sound impressed gave Susan a swell of pride that made her shimmy her shoulders in delight as she sipped from her hot chocolate.
“Yes indeed, the streets feel a lot safer with who the fans and crowds are now dubbing…”
‘Here it is.’ Thought Susan, proud that the city decided to give her a name after all her hard work. ‘What would it be? The Invisible Spider? The Blonde Weaver? Oooh! Maybe they’ll call me…’
“Mommy Long Legs!”
Her eyes going wide, Susan did a spit take that nearly created a small rainbow from the spray of hot chocolate out of her mouth, leading her to sputter and cough.
“WHAT?!”
The screen turned to a photo of J. Jonah Jameson with a cigar in his mouth winking back from his chair with a thumb’s up back at the photographer. All while a live feed of his voice could be heard from the television.
“That’s right ladies and gentlemen, Mommy Long Legs! Thought it up myself, even got it patented so it can’t be changed without being sued. Fits her pretty well too! Just look at those…”
The feed immediately cut out. Turning back to the two reporters. “Well, by the looks of things, Mommy Long Legs is here to stay.”
Slowly getting up from her seat and narrowing her eyes dangerously to the photo of the mustached new mogul, Susan Storm’s hands turned to very tight fists. “I think I found my first supervillain…”
“What was that Suzy?” Asked Ben, snapping Susan out of her grudging distraction.
“Hmm? Oh, nothing Ben, just surprised about this new Spider Lady.”
“Well… She’s got an ass on her, that’s for sure…” Smirked Johnny, getting a slap to the back of his head from his own sister before she stormed off with her drink in hand. “OWE!!! What the HELL Suzie?”
