Look for a likely street away from the boulevard

That was tougher than you thought it would be. One man lost, two more slightly injured and you almost got gutted yourself. Orders or no orders this is not going to work. You start looking for a better way to get to the South Tower, you see three streets leading into the city between you and the next barricade, as well as 5 or 6 very narrow alleys. You don't like the looks of the alleys, your men would have to walk in single file and the roofs of the buildings hang directly overhead. The streets look more promising than trying to climb over another pile of junk while archers pepper you with arrows and **** men are taking wild swings at you.

The first street looks a little wider than the other two, you see several very large doors on both sides of the street and the stale smell of manure suggests that this might be where cattle were driven deeper into the city, it must lead to the butchers and tanners quarters. The street curves to the right about a hundred paces ahead, and you are not sure whether it ends there or continues on.

The second street looks more affluent. There is a set of iron gates that have been decorated with etched designs of flowers and animals. Down this street you see a row of trees and a fountain. Many of the doors are painted bright red or orange, and almost every building has balconies on the second, third and sometimes even fourth floors. The buildings were in excellent condition with no peeling paint or loose mortar. Near the fountain you see a small group of well dressed men and woman waving to you in a friendly manner. Do they mistake you for city troops, or are they luring you into a trap?

Moving on to the last street you see several buildings clearly marked as inns. All the doors and windows are closed but the signs lining the street from above all include the universal pictures of food, drink and beds. There must be at least 20 inns on this street alone. A band of about twenty young boys are bashing each other with wooden poles and clubs. They appear to be fighting over possession of three long water troughs that line the street ahead.
