Look at the compass pillar

This pillar is old and crumbly and has a magnetic compass embedded inserted in a small slot. It's anachronistically made of metal and the outer casing of it is intricately engraved with ram's horns. The arrow is currently pointing towards east. Or is it west? You can never remember whether you're supposed to read the red end or the grey end. It also looks a bit loose in its hole. You could probably pry it out if you tried.
