London- The Powell estate.

Half past six in the afternoon on the Powell estate in south east London and Mickey Smith was making his way to the chinese takeaway. He paused by the wheelie bins that stood outside the rear entrance to the chinese and looked across the road to an empty space and sighed. A huge black tomcat with half an ear missing gave Mickey a disdainful look and lifted a rear leg and began to wash itself with it's tongue.

"Three months and she ain't even called," Mickey lamented to the cat, which paused it's ablutions and stared at Mickey suspiciously. "And it ain't as if she couldn't. Not when she has that souped up mobile of her's"

Mickey shrugged and continued around the corner to get his food. The cat left in peace continued with it's tongue bathing. Suddenly the cat froze and stared intently at the space across the road that had so interested Mickey, it's eyes narrowed to thin slits and the hackles rose on it's back as it sensed an imminent distortion in time and space.

Suzy Wong gave Mickey a huge smile as she shovelled his chips into a polystyrene tray and placed a pair of battered sausages precariously on top. After a glance over her shoulder to check that her father was still busy in the kitchen she added a spring roll and gave Mickey a wink.

"You're not still moping over that Rose Tyler are you Mickey?" Suzy asked. "Ain't it time you moved on? You need to get out and have a laugh instead of sitting in front of that computer every night,"

"Yeah, you're right." Mickey agreed. "Tell you what, I've got a cousin who works at the Hammersmith odeon and the black eyed......"

A grating sound from outside interrupted Mickey's chat up. Starting as a whisper it quickly rose in volumn until it drowned out the sound of nearby traffic.

"What is that bloody noise?" Suzy swore,annoyed at the interruption. "I've heard that before."

"Better make that another two portions of chips." Mickey said grinning broadly. "I think I've got a couple of friends popping in."

Round the corner from the takeaway in the exact spot the cat was staring at the air began to shimmer. A shape began to form from thin air and quickly gained substance as the grinding sound that heralded it's appearance became louder. In a few seconds the large blue box with the words "POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX" above the doors had fully materialised and the noise cut off abruptly. After a brief pause a door swung open and a young blonde woman and an older man wearing a rumpled suit and scruffy trainers stepped out.

"Here we are, home sweet home." The pretty blonde said,looking round with a smile.

The Doctor sniffed, "Yeah, fantastic. Let's go somewhere interesting, I know this lovely little planet just..."

"You promised remember?" Rose protested. "A visit home and tea with my mum."

"Yeah, yeah." The Doctor conceded ungraciously. "An evening with Jackie Tyler, who could resist."

Unknown to the two time travellers their arrival hadn't gone unnoticed, miles away lights flashed on a console and an alarm began to sound.
