Lois Lane Looks In The Mirrors

Curiosity caused Lois Lane to turn her head. The hallway was long, perhaps a hundred feet, and lit only by the overhanging lamps. It had been years...perhaps decades...since Lois had been in a carnival funhouse of mirrors, with their warped sheets that distended and distorted the viewer's reflection, to make them look tall or fat, busty or with ridiculously flared hips...

Except there was something off about these mirrors. Oh, the distortions were there, as Lois stepped down the corridor, her eyes moving back and forth like at a tennis match from one to the other...but they were too perfect. In one mirror, her butt was as big as a pair of basketballs. In another she was freakishly tall and thin, gracile as a gazelle. In the next her eyes and features were subtly different, as if she was Japanese or Korean...in the next her hips were flared, her belly and breasts pendulous, like a Venus of Willendorf.

Ten steps in, and Lois looked down at her body, just to make sure she wasn't actually changing...but no, the same old hands and thin thighs and flat stomach and small, palmable breasts greeted her. The reporter let out a little sigh.

It's not like I haven't thought about making some changes, she thought. But I've never been one for elective surgery...and there are some things you can't change. Not without...magic...

Lois stepped forward, determined to reach the end of the corridor...but her gaze still turned to the mirror, where the other Lois Lane stared back at her. It sent a shiver down her spine as the changes grew more pronounced. In one mirror, a masculine face stared back at her, with broad shoulders and a five o'clock shadow. In another, a Black woman looked out at her, hair close-cropped and woolly, skin a creamy cafe-au-lait. In the next her ears were pointed, eyes slanted, the violet irises more intense, and she stood tall and regal like a character in the Lord of the Rings...

The reporter sucked in her breath and the hair rose on the back of her neck. Was this a trap of some kind? Or was this some mechanism for how the changes worked on the women...did they each find their perfect reflection, and then the magic gem made it real? Curiosity burned at Lois to find out, but there was only one way to test it...
