What Happens To Lois?

Lois Lane Grabs Zatanna

It was as though Lois Lane was a spectator in her own body. She turned toward Zatanna, the witch's back toward her. The reporter crept forward on tiptoe, eyeing the tails of Zatanna's coat, the dark hair that fell from beneath the top hat, heard the words that the witch kept saying.

"I've heard of succubi who could influence victims that ingested their essence. Blaze is a very powerful succubus, if she managed to taint something you ate or drank, she might able to *urghk*!"

The reporter's left arm slid around Zatanna's neck. Her right came forward against the back of the witch's head, compressing her throat. Instinctively, the witch tried to mumble some words...but the reporter's stranglehold rendered her effectively mute. Shocked at the witch struggling in her grip, Lois tried to release her...but her body wouldn't respond.

"You were so close," Lois heard her own voice speak. "But you had no idea how powerful my influence is. You will be the perfect little magical battery...for my ascension."

In desperation, Zatanna's hands stabbed upward, trying to jab at Lois Lane's eyes...but Lois felt her head easily dodge the blows, never letting up the pressure for an instant.

A **** hold, properly applied, doesn't take long. Lois heard her friend's gasps for breath...the weakening of her limbs as she grabbed at the reporter's arm, trying to catch her breath...

As Zatanna went limp, Lois Lane found herself dragging the witch toward the empty altar. Grim foreboding filled the reporter, not sure what was about to happen...but it felt like something really bad. Nothing that included the word "ascension" was ever good.
