"I have observed the maturation process countless times now, and it never ceases to amaze and intrigue me. Each time, the two entities appear to compete for control over the shared body. Through the drones, I have witnessed this struggle to its completion many times. Without fail, one entity always wins, and 97% of the time, the winner is the former genitalia.”

"I wonder what that implies about them...”

"However, it's not that the loser faces ****. No, I've taken samples and have conclusively proven that both beings continue to exist. One takes over the conscious role, but the other doesn't just metamorphose into the new adult's reproductive system; it also retains sentience. Both thinking beings still play a part. My scans from our observer drones detect complex activity in the former head or brain region, now acting in its new role. Further study will determine if this activity persists into later life, but my initial theory is that the former personality is still present. The neuron structure forces it to follow the natural impulses of its repurposed form.”

"Unfortunately, I can't prove this (yet) due to the restrictions imposed by the ignorant military leadership. They believe contact is too dangerous. Nonsense, I say. I will prove we can have open relations with these life forms sometime soon."

I lean back, feeling the familiar frustration bubbling up. The dim lights of my quarters seem to amplify the tension.
