Chapter 20
by Shandy
Listen? or dismiss him?
Listen
Hunter nodded at the older man to continue.
"Firstly, since it will no doubt occur to you to ask, let me explain about the transference of the affliction. A simple bite is not enough, it requires the exchange of blood. Before I bit you I bit myself, holding my blood in my mouth. When I bit you it entered your bloodstream, and very quickly went to work. Modifying you, as it were." Dunnigan took a sip of water and smiled.
"By now the modification is complete. You are, to all intents and purposes, a lycanthrope." He smiled again at Hunter's expression.
"Let me dispel some of the legends and myths that you may have heard. Firstly, in were form you retain your human intelligence, although you may find that the instincts of the animal are very powerful and difficult to resist. You will not turn into a mindless, ravening, blood crazed beast. Unless you choose to, of course."
Dunnigan paused and sipped his water again.
"Your transformation does not require a full moon, although that is certainly a trigger. You can, if your will is strong enough, resist a transformation. Similarly you can trigger a transformation yourself. It does take practice, however. In that pouch you will find a small flashlight. It emits a form of polarised light which can aid you in transformation. Over time and with practice, you may learn to transform without the light, and just through an act of will."
"In human form, as I have shown you, you are stronger and possess enhanced senses. You also heal quicker from injury, although you can certainly be badly hurt or killed. The affliction also greatly slows the onset and progress of senescence. You will age much more slowly than a...normal human." He smiled and sipped his water again.
"In were form you heal extremely quickly, within minutes at most. You are all but invulnerable to injury and are effectively unkillable, with two significant exceptions. The legend of silver is correct. You can be slain by a silver bullet, or blade, or club I suppose. It has to strike a vital area. Heart, brain or a major artery. Pure silver mind you, no blends with other alloys will work. You can also be killed by another like yourself. Another lycanthrope."
Dunnigan paused, sipping his water as he looked at Hunter.
"Have you any questions Mr. Collins?"
Has he?
