Listen to Michael's plan

"Dangerous how?" You ask.

"We spent the last few weeks planning an attack on Solvene's castle. Our forces are ready to attack tomorrow. If we are successful, then her magic will be broken and all the people she enslaved will be freed. Your own predicament would be over as well. Join us and help us overthrow Solvene and you'll be freed." answers Michael, looking you in the eyes.

"Michael you're not serious!" Exclaims Eleanor "She just arrived there, she has no training, no knowledge of Solvene and her allies. She has no chances!"

You're a bit peeved by Eleanor's statement but you know she's not wrong. You were helpless in that limo and without Eleanor and Jason, you would probably already be licking Solvene's boots while begging for a release.

"She's not wrong. I would love to help but I know nothing about fighting." You say in a sad tone of voice.

But Michael smiles at you. "What if you had a fast way to get those fighting skills?"

You blink and let out a snicker. "What? Now you tell me that you can turn me in a magical girl thanks to a plastic bauble and a talking cat?"

Michael laughs "While you would make a pretty Sailor Moon, I'm more of a Tolkien fan myself." Michael opens a drawer of his desk and pulls out a long wooden box. He puts it on the table and pushes it towards you.

You open the box and find inside several rings. You look up at Michael with a quizzical look. "Really?"

Michael nods. "Really. Those rings are prototypes I have acquired some time ago. Once put on your finger, they allow you access to a various range of abilities depending on the ring you chose. Unfortunately, those rings never made it out of test phase as we couldn't remove them from their wearer, making the wearer slowly change their personality to fit their new abilities over time. When this situation started, I nick them out of the lab before coming here, knowing they could be useful if I manage to fix that flaw and I think I did. However, I couldn't test them as I had no one to spare in case something went wrong and I'll admit I kinda forgot about them. But those rings would allow you to be strong enough to take part in the battle and defeat Solvene. I'm sure of it."

You study the rings, observing the various symbols carved into them. A pair of crossed swords, a Caduceus, a flame... Those symbols are probably linked to the abilities you'll gain.

"What about those personality change you talked about? You're sure that's fixed?" You ask him again.

"Yes, the problem was that the ring ended up fusing with the wearer, making it impossible to remove and making the wearer behaves according to their abilities. Someone tried on a knight ring and ended up behaving like knights of old, always talking about honor and sacrifice and what not. He left one day leaving a note that he was going to fight evil in all of its form and that it was time for a crusade or something like that.

Anyway, I mixed some of my own dispel magic on the ring to create an isolating layer. You'll still get the abilities but it would take a very long time for the ring to fuse with you as it would first need to wear out my dispel magic on it. I estimate that it would take at least a month before things would become serious, leaving you more than enough time to help us.

The choice is yours Miss Doe. Will you help us?"

You think on this while looking at the rings intently. Will you take the risk of fighting with one of those rings, or do you prefer to stay here and hope for the best?
