Listen to Me
Katherine sat and hugged Nadia. They both cried.
“You made her happy — thank you for that,” Katherine said.
Nadia speechless. Trembling. It’s not fair…
”I want to send you to Paris. I am going there too in a few days. Moorfield is over. I am liquidating all assets. The Volkov won’t stop until we are all dead…” Katherine said.
“Paris? W-what about everyone else?” Nadia said.
“Everyone is leaving to other states or other countries. It’s over… My friends and family are more important than money and control…” Katherine sighed.
“Why do the Volkov hate Moorfield so much?” Nadia said.
”My father wasn’t the best of men… He killed many Volkov. When Alice was only ten years old, she was instructed to shoot three captured Volkov. It was because she didn’t want to be involved in crime — and father didn’t like that… The cycle of violence ends here…”
“Poor Alice… Poor Alice…” Nadia croaked.
Katherine held Nadia’s cheek, “Listen to me…”
“I want you to be safe Nadia… That’s what she would have wanted…” Katherine said.
A flight ticket. A last coffee. Lift off through an overcast sky into the sun. Red hair in a pony.
I’ll never forget you…
