Chapter 7 by hewhoismany hewhoismany

What happens next?

Link doesn't see her again for another month and a half, and she has changed a lot.

Despite Link wanting to see Princess Zelda sooner rather than later, to both their chagrin another nobleman, this time a baron from Labrynna, came to the castle. By the time that the entire ruckus was over and both of them had time to meet up, a month and a half had passed by. For the third time he received a message to meet her in the study, and for a third time he walked up to the room and found the princess alone therein. The time gap had done more to her than he would have guessed. He found her staring deeply into an ancient book with a black cover, the writing on the front in a language he had never seen before. The desk was also being shared with a large plate, covered in cooked meat, bread, vegetables, an entire meal. And as Zelda read she would absently reach over and grab some piece of food with her fork and bring it to her mouth.

She had apparently been eating at such a pace for some time, as her frame was much thicker than the last time her had seen her. Though he would never say it aloud, Link estimated the Princess had gained at least twenty pounds, and it was showing. And yet, when the Princess turned to face him, she smiled wider and brighter than he had ever seen before. "Link!" She rose quickly from the desk and squeezed Link in a tight hug, and he was able to feel her softer body pressing against him. "It had been too long!" He saw something in her eyes as she spoke, a hunger of a different kind.

Smiling himself, Link asked the princess how things had been since their last meeting, and what she had been studying.

To his surprise, the Princess blushed in response to his question. "As I'm sure you can see quite plainly, I've been indulging in the enhanced appetite a little too much." Zelda sighed. "I tried to cut myself off, to go on a diet, but after a day of that I felt like I was dying of starvation, so that went out the window fast." She shrugged. "I guess I've just accepted it, now. There isn't much I can do for it."

Link asked if that was because of the spell's caveat, that she couldn't switch back Triforce pieces until after the Triforce of Power had completely replaced the Triforce of Wisdom.

For a second, Zelda just blinked in confusion before realizing what Link meant. "Oh, yes! Actually, if I'm being honest, I keep forgetting that I've even switched pieces. It doesn't come up much, lately." Her eyes fell on the book on the desk, and she smiled excitedly. "Besides all that, I've switched my focus to studying Gerudo magic, something that was definitely difficult. That's actually why I had that Baron come by here. He is a collector of artifacts, and it took quite a bit of bargaining before he was willing to part with this." Something dark that Link had never seen before glinted in Zelda's eyes as she looked at the book. "There's a lot of interesting stuff in there, once you manage to translate it." She turned to Link and said, excitedly, "Would it be okay if you came by in a few days? I have something I want to show you, but it'll take some time to set up."

What happens when he arrives?
