Link arrives and finds it's a trap.

True to his word, the very next day Link came back to the study. When he opened the door, however, the room was pitch black, with no candles or torches lit. He called out the Princess's name, worried something might have happened to her, and stepped inside the room. The second his feet were firmly inside the room, the door swung shut behind him and a ring of candles lit simultaneously around him in a circle, their dim blue light illuminating the face of Princess Zelda, standing just a few feet from him, her face displaying both fear and anticipation. Link tried to move, but couldn't, and asked her what was going on.

The Princess took a deep breath before replying. "I'm sorry Link, but there's something I have to try. I just..." she paused, looking like she was mentally searching for the right words. She seemed to find them at the same time a primal hunger entered her eyes. "I need to do this. I have to know how far I can push this magic, how far the applications can reach."

Link asked her what she was going to do, and she replied,
