Chapter 4 by Faraxsis89 Faraxsis89

What's next?

Lily finds out some devastating news about her and Violet's future.

Lily looked at the piece of paper in her hand; the devastating news made tears fall from her eyes. They had nothing, well, only the remnants of her vault, which Lily created with her inheritance. It would last them for a little while, but it was nowhere near enough. Lily hoped that she would be able to sustain herself and Violet with the Potter fortune until she could get a job. However, it seemed in James idiocy and despite their marriage, their wills. James had forgotten to key her into the vault properly, so it had shut down until Violets 11th Birthday, where she could access her school vault and her 18th with the entire fortune when she took up as the family head.

It was awful news, and she had no one to blame but themselves. Maybe she could ask Dumbledore for some help. She wanted to earn her charms mastery, but that would have to be put on hold and with her being a muggle-born, her grades would not matter; she could only ever get a menial job. Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock on her door.

"Come in", she cried out, hoping that it did not appear she had been crying as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

Peter slowly entered the room, he had safely recovered, and through Madam Phomrey's care, he was as right as rain. Except for a missing hand that was bandaged over and just slowly healing. He saw the tear-streaked face of Lily and the letter in her hand, the signifier of Gringotts displayed at the top. It must have been about the Potter vaults and their will, he could guess.

"Hi, Lily..... what's wrong? What's happened?" Peter asked as he looked down at Lily, her face then looking up, as she motioned for him to sit down on the bed.

Walking over, he gently sat down on the bed and placed his hand on her knee.

"It's about the vaults, and I don't have access to them apart from the widow's vault until Violet's 18th Birthday, and well, the school vault until her 11th Birthday. So what am I going to do? I was unable to get a job due to the war, and well, No one will hire a muggle-born. So I have no idea, how I am going to find a place to live or support Violet at all?" the words, tumbling out as she buried her head into his shoulder, her arms reaching out around his neck, as a fresh batch of tears stained his shirt.

Peter could not believe what he was hearing, this was the best news he could have hoped for, and it would advance his plans massively for Lily. Placing his arm around her shoulder and let her continue to cry into his shoulder as he gently rubbed her back.

"It is okay, let it all out. I am sure together, and we can come up with a plan to help get you started and on your feet." Peter suggested as he continued to let Lily get all her feels out, his voice reassuring her of her future.

Lily heard his words, and in a way, it was reassuring she had someone there for her; she had lost everyone in the war. Her friends, her husband was all gone. Only Peter was left. He was so thoughtful, making sure she was alright, he could have left her, but instead, he was taking care of her.

Lily pulled herself back from the embrace as Peter dropped his hand from his back, as she shuffled back and sat there, taking in several shallow breaths. 2Thank you, Peter, for that; I think I just needed to hear those words. Everything has just happened so fast. I just have not been able to process it all. Damn James, and his idiocy sometimes."

Peter was happy with what he heard; slow and steady always wins the race. "Well, I can check if my family has any old properties that you could occupy, and with me being the sole member left, then there should not be any problems that may solve the housing issue, and well, I can stay around and look after Violet, while you archive your charms mastery." He offered, Lily's eyes widening at his suggestion.

Lily was shocked at what Peter was offering, and it would help solve many of her problems; she could not just ask him something like that. however, he was offering and well, she was sure Violet would like him, and she needed a place to stay. "Peter, that is a phenomenal offer; I cannot ask you to give something up like that for men. Don't you have a place to stay? What if you need it.?" The words tumbled out of her mouth as she tried to deny his offer.

Peter looked towards Lily, a look of disapproval crossing his face. slowly reaching down, he placed his hand on top of hers. "Lily, I would not have made the offer if you did not need it. You and Violet need all the support I can give, and I am happy to support both of you." Peter could see a slight smile cross her face as he spoke; he saw the bracelet glow slightly as his words slowly took effect.

Lily looked towards the mousy face of Peter as she felt his hand grab hers. She was lucky to have him. "Yeah, no. Thank you, Peter. I should not accept help, especially during these times; thank you. I will pay you back one day Peter, for everything. You honestly have been fantastic, from saving Violets life to helping me out. Thank you." She felt fresh tears after in her eyes, but not from sadness. Instead, this time from joy, at Peter's attitude helpfulness during a time in which her outlook and future seemed so bleak. Gently breaking their hold, she wiped them away.

Peter hurried over and gently held her, his arm around her shoulder. Lily made no move to shift away, just comforting in the warmth his body brought, as they sat there in each other company. Then, suddenly, their silence and comfort were broken by Violet's cry's as she woke up.

Lily broke their embrace as she got up and moved towards Violet's cot. "Thank you, Peter, for everything; It seems that Violet has woken up, and I need to take care of her if you don't mind."

Peter could see she wanted privacy; maybe he could see about pushing the amulet's power. "I can stay if you would like; I am sure you could do with some help."

Lily seemed to ponder his question as she looked around; several motions passed on her face, "Yeah, no, I could do with some help. If you could grab some of Violet's clothes from the draws, that would be brilliant while I feed her."

Peter could see the amulet had a more substantial effect on her as she became more dependent on him. Looking out the window, he could not wait. She was obeying his every command. Peter picked out a small onesie that would look very cute on VViolet, as he moved over and handed it to Lily.

"There we are. Is there anything else you need? " Peter asked.

"No, that should be all. But, again, thank you for your help and reassurance; you truly are a blessing at this time." Lily replied, a smile gracing her face, her words killed with sincerity at peter actions.

Peter slowly left the room, watching Lily over his shoulder she did. Soon, so soon, she would be his.

Peter walked back from Gringotts, and Diagonally it was bustling as shopkeepers were preparing to reopen; celebratory banners and posters lay about the street. It seemed that everyone was happy. No, the **** eaters were no longer around. Destroyed shops had been repaired and reoccupied, and it seemed that everyone was more comfortable. Peter had a particular extra reason to be happier through, and he had discovered that he had a property left to the family by his aunt on the Scottish coastline.

Sitting down at a nearby cafe, he opened the audit he had just picked up from the Goblins. It covered the entire vaults that he had available and any other significant items of value. From the Goblin's description, the cottage would need lots of repair works, but Peter could arrange that. Also, the sandy coastline would be perfect for having some fun with Lily, and the surrounding woodland would provide ideal cover from other people. But, for now, he needed to get Lily more reliant on him than anyone else, and well living together would be the first step.

His vaults would support him for a while, and well once the property is fixed up, he and Lily would be living happily together. His contacts in Nocturne ally had been helpful. His job in the back alley apothecary would certainly pay any bills he needed and support his lifestyle with Lily until Violet came of age, and then well, He would happily take the vaults of their hands.

Smiling happily at the thoughts of the future, Peter finished his drink, placed the letter into his pocket, walked out and disappeared in a little bang.

Meanwhile, while Peter was out at Gringotts, Lily lay back in the oversized chair, her charms mastery book in her lap. She was overjoyed with Flitwicks to offer to take her on as an apprentice, and with VViolet sleeping happily, she could sit back and relax. Peter was thoughtful and seemed to want to help her; maybe she had misjudged him. she always thought he was a bit of a cowered, a hanger-on. But he had shown himself differently when it mattered. He was so helpful and honest; she had no idea where she would be without him.

She heard a knock at the door and saw Peter poking his head around the door.

"Bad time, as I have some news regarding the housing situation," Peter said, as he peered into the room, Violet sleeping down in her cot and Lily wearing a tight pair of jeans and a short-sleeved t-shirt along with a plain black robe.

"Yeah, I am only doing some light reading. Finally managed to tire Violet out, so she should happily sleep now for a while. what did you find out, any options?" Lily asked inquisitively. She hoped that Peter had managed to find something. It would alleviate the massive pain of her chest if Peter sorted the housing at least.

Peter slowly entered the room and pulled a chair from the other side; as he sat down in front of Lily, placing his hand down on his knees, he clasped the bandaged stump.

"Well, I have a property, a small cottage off the coast of Scotland, isolated, lots of woodlands and a private beach. Sounds perfect, but it may take around three months before I can get anyone to repair the damages and make it fit and livable. But I thought that you could stay in my flat until then. It would give you time to redesign the home, make it fit for you and Violet." Peter explained, his nervousness plain as he explained his plan to Lily.

The plan was at least okay, and she owed it to him for even offering the house, so living with Peter would not be too bad, he was clear, kept to himself, and it would mean someone would be around for Violet.

"Honestly, I can not thank you enough, Peter; that is a great plan. like it is not ideal, but it is the best of a bad situation, and as you said, we can make it safe for Violet. and with the beach and woodland, it just sounds perfect." Lily suggested as she got up and pulled him into a tight hug.

Peter felt his Lily bury his face side his as she wrapped her arms around him. he could feel the tears flow down his cheeks onto his shoulder.

"Thank you so much. I don't honestly know where I would be or how I would be doing without you," Lily cried, the wounds of everything over the last few days flowing out as she let them pour out. Peters wrapped his arms around Lily as he reciprocated the hug.

The pair stayed there embrace until Lily felt her tears dry up.

"Thank you for holding me, Peter. I needed that. I am sorry for placing so much pressure on you, and you have just been fantastic. Madam Phomfrey wants to keep me around for a couple more days; then I am guessing it will be time for the will reading, and well, I think it would be time to move out of Hogwarts. 2 Lily explained as she smiled weakly towards Peter.

"I will have it all cleaned up for you and Violet; for now, let's grab something to eat," Peter said as he took hold of Lily's hand.

Lily moves into Peter's apartment.
