Chapter 12

How does Katie act when Mr. Cowall returns?
Like sensual arm candy
Katie opened her eyes. She was in the Gloucester billiard room, nestled in the ever-comfy armchair. The soft sounds of a jazz singer emanated from the speakers placed around the room. As she wiped a small bit of drool from the corner of her mouth, she realized she must have fallen asleep. She remembered having a great conversation with Martin about Carmella, and the convention, and Mr. Cowall. He had really opened her eyes about many things. Many things of which she had previously been unaware, like how she needed to work harder at keeping Mr. Cowall at the convention. She didn't want to leave early and if that meant making sure Mr. Cowall felt special by flirting with him, we'll that's what she'd have to do. Martin had been so kind to spell it out for her, and it really made sense. She remembered listening to his sweet, saccharine voice and gently nodding along. It brought a strange warmth to her body.
She rubbed her bleary eyes and looked around the room. Martin was sitting in a chair near the dry bar reading a book. His scotch glass and bottle were on the table beside him. His head slowly bobbed along to the music as he read.
"Martin," she said from across the room and he looked up. A pleasant smile crossed his face. "I'm so sorry! Did I fall asleep during our conversation?"
Martin chuckled and closed his book on his lap. "It's quite alright. I must have that kind of voice, or maybe I just prattle on so much that I bore people to ****." Katie opened her mouth to object, but he quickly continued, "It's a sight I see too often even with Carmella. I'll start on some tangent and her eyelids seem to gain ten pounds. Sometimes I keep talking just because I love to watch her sleep. So peaceful and serene."
As he spoke, Katie sat up straight. She fixed her vest which was dangerously close to revealing her nipple, and primped her hair. She looked around the room again to assess her surroundings.
"There I go again," he said, "Rambling on about nothing important."
Katie chuckled. "No, no. I was listening, I promise!"
Martin laughed too. He set his book down on the table and stood up. "It's alright. Carmella messaged me; they should be back any moment." He walked to the dry bar and grabbed a new glass, "Do you want a drink?"
Katie waved him off and stood from her seat, carefully putting her weight on her very relaxed legs. "No, thanks," she said, "I've probably had my fair share for the day.
Katie walked to the bar and used the mirror behind it to fix her lipstick and tend to her hair. Martin, in the meantime, grabbed his bottle of scotch and poured himself another glass.
"About our conversation earlier," he said, looking at Katie in the mirror, "I hope you don't think I was being too forward."
Katie interjected before he could continue further. "Oh no, not at all. It really makes sense, everything you said, all the points you brought up."
Martin smiled an unknowing smile. "Oh, good," he said. "It's just I worry about Andy, and I like you. I'd love to be able to spend more time with you."
Katie turned from the mirror and cast him a questioning look. "Both of you," Martin quickly added, correcting himself.
The door to the room swung open, and in walked Carmella, dressed in her leopard-print mini skirt and satin top. "You'll never guess who can pull off a half-decent Sinatra," she said loudly as she entered. She smiled as she paused and gestured to the open door. Katie and Martin's gazes traversed across the room from the blonde Brooklyn woman to Mr. Cowall, trepidatiously leaning against the jamb of the open doorway. He had a bashful yet confident smile plastered across his face.
"Oh really?" asked Katie with a sly grin. She strode from behind the bar to the open door. "I'd love to hear that sometime," she said as she approached Mr. Cowall. She grabbed his colored necktie and pulled him in closer. "Maybe you could give me a private performance?"
Mr. Cowall's expression quickly changed to shock, and he glanced back and forth between Katie and Martin. Katie pulled him in so they were closer than they had ever been. She tore her eyes away from his pleasantly chilling stare and watched her hands play with his lavender tie. "I don't think I've properly thanked you for bringing me along. So thank you," she said. Her eyes darted back up to his face and found him staring deep into her cleavage. A wry smile spread across her red lips and she stood up straight to push her chest out more. "I really appreciate it, and I hope you'll give me a chance to show my appreciation." She placed his tie back and began smoothing it into place. His body was expectedly softer than Jake's, but Katie didn't mind. She knew he had bigger priorities than working on his physique.
"Uhh... Katie?" exclaimed Carmella from the other side of the room. Katie looked over to address Carmella and noticed Mr. Cowall glanced over as well, but Martin quickly wrapped his arm around Carmella's waist and pulled her in close to him. He seemed to be whispering sweet nothings into her ear because a wide, goofy grin spread across her face.
Katie looked back at Mr. Cowall, who still had a shocked expression on his face, but his crystal blue eyes were now solely fixed on her face. "What... Uh... How do you intend to do that?" he stammered.
Katie smiled and placed her hands on his hips, pulling herself in closer until her breasts softly pressed against him. She looked up at her boss and said, "Well, I know appearances are important here, so I thought maybe I could be your arm candy?"
Mr. Cowall stared at her speechless. Katie felt warm pleasure wash over her because she knew she was doing her job well. She extended her feet, causing her already high heels to lift further from the floor. Her arms wrapped past his hips and into the crook of his lower back. She leaned her head in so it nestled right beside his and her lips were an inch from his ear. "That is, if you'll have me," she whispered breathilly. Her heavy breasts pressed firmly against his chest. This was the closest she had ever been to Mr. Cowall, and it felt surprisingly good.
She pulled away while keeping her arms around his waist. She looked up at his face for his reaction. Even with her heels on, he was taller than her. Standing proudly, he loomed above her. He had a big goofy grin on his face as he looked at her and nodded. Katie felt a warmth of satisfaction spread through her body. She knew she should feel happy that she was being a good employee for Mr. Cowall, but why was it turning her on so much?
"Well, I think my reservation of this room is almost up," announced Martin, causing Katie and Mr. Cowall to look his way. He still had his arm wrapped around Carmella's waist, but Carmella had nuzzled her face into his chest and looked as though she was feeling weak in the knees.
"Is Carmella okay?" asked Katie. She took one hand from around his waist while she turned around, but remained tight to Mr. Cowall's side. He lifted his arm and pulled Katie in closer by the shoulder.
"Fine... yeah, I'm fine," murmured Carmella as she pulled away from Martin with a dopey grin across her face. "I'm fine," said Carmella, "just overcome with emotions seeing my man again, I guess." She looked lovingly at Martin and then back at Katie and Mr. Cowall. "Oh my God," she squealed, "ain't you two just looking like the cutest couple?"
Katie blushed but then looked at Carmella quizzically. She would have assumed that Carmella would be opposed to Katie being so cozy with Mr. Cowall, given the conversation they had earlier. This wasn't at all the reaction that Katie had anticipated from the woman, but it certainly made her feel like a good employee knowing that Carmella thought Mr. Cowall looked better with her on his arm. It meant she was making his life better, better.
"What are you two up to now?" asked Mr. Cowall, addressing Martin and Carmella.
"I'm supposed to meet Arthur Cahill for drinks," responded Martin. At the mention of that name, Carmella sneered in disgust. "How about you two?" asked Martin.
Mr. Cowall looked down at Katie with gleaming crystal eyes, and she returned his gaze with a hopeful smile. "I think it's due time to go shopping, right?"
Katie nodded vigorously.
"Oh, that sounds like fun!" exclaimed Carmella. "Can I come?" She looked up at Martin apologetically. "I'm sorry, it's just you know how I feel about Arthur."
Martin chuckled. "It's fine with me, sweetie." He turned his attention to Mr. Cowall and Katie. "What do you think? You're not sick of her yet, are you?"
