How do I approach Jamie?
Like I saw nothing
As I approach the ping pong table Jamie jumps down from the edge fixing her dress before she turns to face me directly. “Like the view?” She slyly asks as we make eye contact. Without giving me a chance to reply, “Here, think fast!” And she tosses one of the ping pong paddles at me. “I haven’t played in years.”
Instinctively I reach out and catch the paddle that was thrown much harder than she realizes. “I warn you, I may not be the team pro but... who am I kidding, I suck at this and usually leave it be.”
Walking up to me Jamie places her arms around neck and it feels like she is staring into my soul. “Pweddy pweese? Just one game?”
“Ok, but then we leave, I have to be back here early tomorrow.”
Jamie gives me a light peck on the cheek and I catch a quick glimpse of what could be a jovial or devilish grin as she turns away from me. “You never did say what you thought of the view.” She asks again as she is walking to her end of the table.
In an attempt to throw her off what ever she is scheming I remind her of our interaction yesterday morning, “What view? You mean your ass? Oh I had a good look at it yesterday morning, why would I bother with more than a passing glance now?”
Clearly expecting something else here eye almost explode out of her for a moment before she catches herself and steels her expression. “Well, let’s play then. To 15 with 2 point lead to win?”
“Sounds good.” I nod as I answer her.
Both of us being competitive people, neither of us takes it easy. The game starts out with us trading scores until we are 5-5. Here I begin to get into the rhythm of the game and quickly rattle off the next 4 point taking a commanding lead of 9-5.
“I’m happy your not taking it easy on me. It always pisses me off when guys ‘let the girl win’.” Which she even included a set of air quotes for the last part. I smile kindly to her compliment and return to my competitive stance. Simply motioning toward the ball with my paddle I urge her to resume the game.
Jamie pipes up before her next serve. “Why don’t we make this interesting?”
Huffing a single laugh I then ask back, “What did you have in mind?”
“Oh nothing to risqué, you are still married to my sister. How about whom ever looses has to give the other a rub down when we get home?” Jamie asks almost like she scripted it.
Do I accept her bet?
