A low humming noise brought me back from a deep sleep.

For a moment, I struggled to place where I was or why I felt so disorientated. Then everything clicked into focus. I was home, alone in bed. I reached for my phone to check the time.

2 am. Damn. I'd barely slept at all. Lily should have been home by now. She had probably stayed back for a few drinks, I thought to myself.

Outside, the sound of a car engine echoed through the quiet street.

I sat up straight, listening closely. Sure enough, there was a car outside our house. I slipped out of bed quietly, making my way towards the window. Peering through the curtains, I saw a car I didn't recognise. It was parked, maybe 20 meters from our house.

The lights were off, but under the streetlights, I could vaguely make out two figures inside. Heart racing, I tried to get a better look. Something wasn't quite right. I sat and watched the car for 10 minutes and it didn't move, I thought I could make out some movement inside but it was hard to tell.

Something was definitely going on. That's when I noticed that now I could only make out one figure, in the driver seat. I hadn't seen the other person exit the car yet. Could it have been Jake driving here? Was Lily with him? The idea infuriated me. A couple more minutes and the second figure reappeared. Blonde hair, it was Lily, I knew it. Her head had been in Jake's lap my mind filled in the blanks. The car door suddenly flew open. Lily stepped out, she began walking, but instead of towards the door, she walked towards the driver side door.
