-"Yes, I'm listening, Sophie." The person who spoke to you was Sophie, your high school classmate and your only friend. You met her when you were kids, and you've been inseparable ever since, but now you weren't so sure things would stay that way.

You looked at her and couldn't help but admire how beautiful she was. That school uniform really suited her and reflected her gorgeous figure.

-*She really is an alpha,* you thought. She had been classified as an alpha, with a score of 90, one of the highest in the school. But it didn't surprise you; you knew since you were kids that she would go far. She was always much smarter and stronger than you, despite being a woman.

-"Then why aren't you answering my question! Tell me, what was your score?" Sophie asked you again. She had already told you her grade, and now it was your turn, but you hesitated to answer truthfully.

Your score had only been 15 points, lower even for betas. For obvious reasons, you couldn't tell her that. You were afraid she'd stop being your friend, or worse, if anyone else found out, it would be the end of you. You'd become the target of ridicule throughout the school. And even though it pained you to lie to your best friend, you couldn't risk it.

-"My clarification... it was 40," you said.

The reason you didn't give a higher score was because you'd be found out much faster. Being a beta didn't just mean being a second-class citizen; it also meant bodily changes.

Betas were **** to take medication to make their bodies conform to government regulations. For example, currently, betas are prohibited from having body hair, having body mass, or being too tall.

All of these physiological traits associated with alpha males were suppressed by the medication, and instead, the betas' bodies were more similar to those of a woman.

That was the reason why you couldn't say a higher rating, since in a few weeks your body would start to change, and there was nothing you could do.

That said, having a score of 40 was still low and considered a beta, but it was much better than saying you only had 15 points.

-"Oh, so that's why you didn't want to tell me..." Sophie told you. You could see her voice becoming more serious. She was intelligent and understood the struggles you would face from now on.

Sophie remained silent, analyzing your words while you were terrified. Since you had told her your score, the question now was: Would she still be your friend?

-"So, Sophie. Our friendship..." Since she didn't speak, you decided to take the first step and ask.
