Chapter 3

How hard did you hit him?
Lethally
Based off the blood starting to pool around his head, Sir Paxton is no more. You set the hammer down on a dusty old bench and consider your options.
You could take Sir Paxton's armour and weapons and set off to become the first dragon knight. They wouldn't like it of course, you're supposed to be a ravening beast, but if you earned a reputation for heroism they'd have to let you in. Of course, you'd need to hide the body well, and have the armour tailored for your form, and plate would probably be too heavy to fly in. And there's those vows of poverty and chastity...
You could just become a regional hero, taking up the late knight's sword and shield, or even just your present hammer, and using them to win renown across the valley. Then the townsfolk would be on your side against the heroes, you'd be allowed to live in a greater degree of peace, and the tavern girls would be falling over themselves to be first in your bed (rather than first far, far away). Although you'd still have to deal with rampaging bandits and the like, plus heroes from out of town.
Another way to get the valley, nominally, on your side, would be to use the knight's body as a trophy, and scare the valley's people so badly they'll do whatever you say. Kill the heroes who are there to try to free them, build you a palace from the ruins of their homes, worship you as a living god (with all the "priestesses" that implies)... It wouldn't be that much of a change, though, just becoming what you're "supposed" to be.
You look back to the hammer, and another idea enters your head. What if you were to become an enchanter? Dragons have a natural affinity for metal, fire and magic, after all, and dragon-smithed metal is some of the most saught-after goods in the world, mainly because each example has to be stolen from the lair of a dragon with an interest in smithing. So if you were to set up shop, they'd be falling over themselves to buy, once they'd gotten over your form. You could enjoy city life (brothels are much better when you don't have to worry about human STDs), keep your horde, and never have to worry about being hunted again.
Then you realise, you're just thinking about what you're future is going to look like. While ignoring the knight currently lying dead on your tower's floor.
Well, that's pretty cold. Maybe you should go all the way, and join the Assassin's Guild? They have a reputation for being race-blind employers, they pay well, and the uniforms are good (as long as you like black). And you've got natural advantages. Wings, talons, deep black scales... You're practically ready-made.
So what's it going to be?

Mutata Draco
Not all dragons are evil...
One day, a certain dragon wakes up with a desire to change from what it is, to leave behind the obsessive hoarding and constant attempts on its life by heroes. This is its story.
