Chapter 6 by Cainiam Cainiam

How will Texas react?

Let her get outside and then pursue her on more equal footing

Every part of Texas wanted to stand her ground, but with this fog she couldn’t see a thing. She knew that Copperbutt likely couldn’t either, and by being in the doorway she was only making herself a target. She pushed to the side, clearing the frame and into the fog herself. She felt the rush of movement moving past her, getting caught by a *smack* to the side by a jiggling butt cheek. “Not so fast, ya varmint!” Texas called out after her, shaking off the impact and rushing out of the bank after her.

Copperbutt pushed through the fog wafting from the bank’s doors and out onto the street. She paused for a moment, panting as she doubled over. “Damn… all the sprinting…” she huffed, gasping, when she looked back behind her to see Texas emerge from the door, helping the possum girl.

Texas carried her free of the bank and then gently pushed her to the side and up against the wall so she could point her six-shooter at Copperbutt. “Ya got no smokescreen now, ya varmint!” she declared. With a *BANG* the revolver went off and a bullet slammed into the ground at the back hooves of one of the horses in front of the wagon. There was a sudden whinny and the horses reared up before starting to charge away.

“No! Damn it, calm down!” Copperbutt called to the horses, lunging for the wagon, and just missing it as it pulled away, leaving her stumbling. She snarled as she turned around only to face the still smoking revolver as the next bullet clicked into place.

“Ah got ya dead to rights,” Texas declared, cocking the revolver as Copperbutt looked to her wagon, then back at Texas. She clearly came to the same realisation that there was no way she was going to escape now. With her wagon gone the options of running or flying meant making herself a big old target.

Slowly the pegasus seemed to come to a conclusion and then nodded at Texas. “Fine. Ya want to bring me in? Well ah don’t get arrested by just anybody,” she said with a smirk.

“Funny, didn’t feel like ah had to try that hard,” Texas replied.

Copperbutt ignored her response as she put her hands on her hips. “Ah’ll come in peacefully, so long as ya beat me in a duel.”

Texas paused. On the one hand she had Copperbutt. However, she wasn’t the type to shoot anyone if she could avoid it, and if she got in close, she might have a hard time with a gal of her size. Beating her in a duel carried risk too of course, but Texas was the fastest draw in Gold Springs, and she was confident she could beat a chunky mare that got winded from a ten second sprint. After all, she’d handled Georgia enough times! Still even if she won the duel would Copperbutt honour it?

Will Texas accept the duel?
