Chapter 15
by
DegenLurker
To pursue Toko, or to go to Lunch and wait for her?
Let's just go to lunch.
Kiyotaka was going to ask for that notebook back once she came back with it, but he wasn't going to **** anything. After all, Toko had chosen to help him of her own volition. He couldn't simply betray the trust she'd given him, even if he was worried about a lot. So, he simply began walking towards the cafeteria with a sigh. Honestly, he still wasn't sure on how to feel regarding everything. Sayaka had revealed her feelings for him, but it'd been under the influence of the notebook. Toko had offered to help him use the notebook to become the Ultimate Cupid- or Casanova, and there were clearly ulterior motives behind her decision to help him "branch out." In truth, there were still a lot of questions on his mind regarding the notebook proper.
None of which were more pressing than his stomach growling. Did sex always make people hungry, or was it simply a combination of him being tired out, and it being close to lunch time? He didn't know, because this morning with Sayaka had been his first real experience on the subject outside of classes that spoke on "eggs" and "insemination", and the more technical based side of it.
Sayaka. Right. If she did wind up pregnant, or others found out about the situation he'd put her in, her career would be over, and her title of Ultimate Idol would vanish overnight, kicking her out of Hope's Peak and leaving her in ruins, just like his family had been left in ruins after his grandfather's corruption scandals came to light.
Could the notebook change that? Probably not - it wasn't a rule book that dictated the rules of the world, it was only a book that engaged in sexual matters. It'd be nice if he could just write down "No one Kiyotaka has sex with will have to suffer consequences for their actions", but that was far too vague, and he doubted the book would allow it. It could alter people's bodies and their minds, but the laws of society and the laws of the universe weren't going to be that easy to slip by. Justice always came around eventually, whether swift and brutal, or slow and methodical behind churning wheels. The "right" thing to do would have been to burn the notebook instead of testing it.
But he was already damned by using it, wasn't he? He'd just have to trust in his friends, and keep moving regardless. He couldn't stay the Ultimate Moral Compass. If he did become the Ultimate Cupid, then he could ensure all of his friends wound up in happy, supportive relationships. He could figure out who had the other Sex Notes, and ensure that their behavior didn't endanger others, or endanger the world. The notebook was a tool. A dangerous one, but a tool all the same. As long as he did his best to stick to the straight and narrow, he'd remain a **** for good that would ensure happiness for everyone else- just as he'd always wanted. He wouldn't use the notebook for power, or personal gain- no matter how tempting it was. He'd just use it to make sure people were happy, and prevent other Sex Note users from hurting other people.
Alternatively, Toko had raised the option of helping him become the Ultimate Casanova. To be powerful, respected, feared- just like Byakuga was. To live the celebrity life at the top, without having to worry about social awkwardness, or to bend over backwards at the requests of others. He'd be the one giving the orders. He'd be the master at the top of the heap. He could still ensure a better world, but he wouldn't be doing it in the shadows, or passively like an "Ultimate Cupid." He could see it now- driving fast cars like his grandfather and his father used to. Throwing money out to beggars, or those who came to him for help. Being the fun, warm rich guy compared to Byakuga's cold, aloof nature. His family name restored to the adoration of the world. He wouldn't be in the background, silently working to ensure that everyone else got their happy ending- he'd take his with the Sex Note, and then he'd give them theirs by his hand.
He didn't know which option would stick with him, but the bell for lunch ringing tore through his thoughts, as the doors to each classroom opened, and the crowd of Ultimates rushed out in the same direction he'd been going.
"There he is." A gruff voice chimed from behind him, as he turned to see Mondo Owada, one of his closest friends giving a wave as the other members of his class began to exit the classroom he was supposed to have been in. "Sayaka said you've been feeling out of it all day. You good?"
"I guess." Kiyotaka replied, doing his best to chuckle as Mondo clapped him on his shoulder. "You guess, huh? Well, if you are contagious, don't get me or any of the others with it."
"Come to think of it, Makoto, Kyoko, and Byakuga never came back to class either." Aoi Asahina interjected as she bounded out of the classroom, the bounce in her step equal to the bounce of her chest. "I guess we'll all have to do a shopping trip later for hand-sanitizer and the like. We can't let the group get conked out disease wise!"
"I uh, agree." Chihiro spoke, raising their hand as they looked out from behind Mondo's frame. "I'd hate for either Mondo or I to get sick before Saturday, seeing as that's- uh, a workout day." Workout? Kiyotaka was pretty sure that was code for some form of gym-date, but he simply nodded as he continued his walk towards the cafeteria, the others in tow.
"I'm fine. Really. I'm just a bit out of it today, I guess. We all get days like that, right?" He asked, doing his best to quell everyone's worries, only to get even more looks at that from his peers. "Oh, I get it." Mondo murmured, before perking up. "Well, you're free to sit with us and Leon, like always. I know you're usually the type to prowl the whole cafeteria looking for rule breakers or the like, but if you wanna just relax for today, everyone gets it."
"Yeah. We've all gotta take breaks from our regular routine sometimes, right?" Aoi asked, as Kiyotaka's phone buzzed. He nodded just a bit absentmindedly as he reached for it, then quickly checked the text message while the others talked behind him.
I see you! Can't make it to lunch today, but I'll be in the dining hall at dinner tonight. Open for just the two of us? - Sayaka.
At the end of the hallway, headed towards one of Hope's Peak's side-exits, Sayaka Maizono stood in her sleeveless, sparkly, pink idol dress, with a pink headband atop her head. She smiled, and waved down the hallway towards the group.
Kiyotaka did his best to grin and wave back, before quickly typing. Yes. I'll see you then! Good luck with the shoot! as she walked away.
"I feel like I'm dying of thirst while watching another man drown." Leon Kuwata muttered from behind him, as he turned. "Huh?" He asked, as Aoi chuckled, and Mondo shook his head. "Don't worry about it, bro. Let's get to eating."
=================================================================
"Listen, I don't even think you go to this academy. I don't think we have that amount of food here to serve you. Please just move on, so we can handle the actual students." One of Hope's Peak's very beleaguered cafeteria staff spoke as he looked downwards at the black and white bear blocking everyone at the front of the line. Monokuma simply laughed.
"If you don't have enough food to handle a single bear, then how are you going to handle all of these students, huh? Portion sizes are very important, you know!" The bear replied, coughing once. "Just give me ten of everything, then, if that's not too much for you to handle." The culinary technician smiled, turning to the group of cafeteria workers behind him as he held up all ten of his fingers.
"Ten of- sure. Fuck it! Fuck everything! Fuck me!" One replied, shaking his head. "Fuck the education system, Fuck Hope's Peak, Fuck all of it! You know, despite how much money Reserve Course students have to pay to get into this damn building, very little of it goes to us cafeteria workers. It all goes into the headmaster's pockets. That guy? Jin Kirigiri? I guarantee you that he's using it to buy a fuckload of crackwhores, while I go home to my bitchass sister and her husband's shared apartment. I wake up at four am in the morning, drive here, and set up a goddamn buffet to please a bunch of young adults, and then a fucking bear shows up. I don't even think he's a bear at all, damnit! Does this children's toy belong to anyone in line? Is he an actual member of staff? Is this a prank-cam video? I swear to god, if I turn around and find a camera in my face, I'm ending it all right here, right now. I'll do it. I'll do it in front of these Ultimates. I'll-"
"Ten of everything, you say?" Another staff member replied, as his angry colleague was dragged out. "Gladly. We'll be right with you. Are you fine if we let other students make their orders now, or move through the line?"
"Eh, sure." Monokuma said. "To be honest, I'm not really feeling that hungry anymore. One pork chop oughta do it."
If looks could kill, Monokuma would have gone through roughly twenty five different executions. Regardless, all of the cafeteria workers simply smiled as Kiyotaka made his way up through the line, looking around. Toko still wasn't here yet. Where had she gone? Was she late, or had something come up? If she'd gotten caught already, then he was going down, and he'd have no clue. None at all.
But he couldn't just leave now, could he?
"Dude, your face is turning blue. Breathe." Leon muttered, and Kiyotaka exhaled. "Right." He spoke. "Let's eat!"
To sit with Mondo and the gang, or to sit elsewhere?
