Chapter 4

What to suggest?
Let's go out.
"Yes? Well what?" She giggled again. That sweet, melodic giggle i liked so much.
"Let's go out someplace. I just got a little money from my grandma."
"You did? It's not your birthday or anything. Did she give you Christmas money or a graduation present early?"
"Nah, she's just senile. She said it was for throwing those eggs at 'president Coolidge'. Then she called me 'Ichabod'." Shana laughed. "Anyway, since her friend had such a grudge against Coolidge and a good throwing arm, i got's me $50. So, where do you wanna go?"
"If i didn't know better, i'd think you were asking out on a date," Shana said, not exactly angrily.
"Then it's a good thing you know better. Now where to?"
Shana suggested a place called 'Skull and Eagle', kind of a substitute bar for people under 21. They didn't have ****, but the people there were said to be loud, violent assholes all the same. I'm not really into fighting people who don't really deserve it, but i thought saying that would make me sound like a pussy, and i had a pretty good non-pussy-looking streak going with Shana. I wasn't about to end it now, so i said sure. We got back in my car and headed for Skull and Eagle.
Skull and Eagle was designed to replace bars for those of us who couldn't go into real ones, in almost every sense. The inside was smoky and dimly-lit. They had a few pool tables and dart boards, the standard bar games. They even had a stage in case some local emo kids with instruments wanted to spread their gloom beyond their garage. No one was on it now, thankfully. I had never actually been in here before, but i had heard about it. Now that i could see it, i started to wonder why the hell someone like Shana wanted to come here. This seemed like the opposite kinda place she'd wanna be. I mean this was the girl i was in a class play of Rapunzel with in 2nd grade. But, i guess tastes change with age, so i went with it. Long as Shana was happy, it was cool by me. We found a table and sat down across from each other.. Her foot grazed mine a few times, seemingly unintentionally, but Shana made no apologies for it.
"Hey, welcome to S&E, what c'n i getcha?" The waitress kinda snuck up on me, and her gruff, yet unmistakably female voice doubled the surprise.
"Ah!! Sorry. Lemme get a...Oh, wait. This is a date, so i guess you should order for me, huh?" Shana chuckled at me.
"Uh, sure. Lemme get a..peach margarita (it was actually called a soft margarita, but i felt weird saying 'soft'), and (in my smoothest voice) a strawberry for the lady."
"Ooo!"
The waitress rolled her eyes. "Anything else, Casanova?"
"You hungry?" Shana shook her head. "We're set."
"A'right." She walked away, leaving Shana and i smiling at each other.
