Who am I?

My eyes affix themselves upon the figure I’ve been following for the duration of the night. As much as I know nothing about them, I can’t help but feel drawn to them. Centuries without a companion truly get inside of one’s mind, and when one finds another that they’re drawn towards, that opportunity cannot be overlooked. Nearly my entire night- day, for our kind- has been spent trying to catch the moment I need with them, but crowds of passers by and needless, minor interactions have gotten in my way.
The sun’s already clearly approached rising, and I know my time is fading. Though I know the risk I’m taking, staying unguarded this close to dawn, the taste of risky pursuit and my closeness to no longer facing an eternity of solitude overrides any common sense I have.
Soon, just as the sun reaches the lowest visible point of it’s arch, I find my chance. Finally, the crowds have gone and my target was alone in the open. As I begin to make my move, a strange man emerges from one of the docked ships and approaches my point of focus. Though I want to wake, the burning sensation dancing across my skin tells me that my time is fleeting.
I must make my move now, or I may never get my chance, but the risk of revealing my true nature and possibly leading myself to the stake nearly puts me off of the whole thing. Besides, these encounters rarely run short and I don’t much take to the idea of petrifying.
Regardless of all of my worries, I know a decision must be made. Indecision is worse than a bad move in this situation, as burning without a purpose is far worse than dying for cause.
Do I make my move?
In a world where any famous person can own anyone else with practically a snap of their fingers, what fate awaits me? Or, for those into the inverse of that, some of the fictional universe paths have some… promising changes. Some universes, or options for them, alter to rules to give me the power. Many others allow you to take the identity of a fictional character and gain ownership over other fictional characters or have them take ownership of you.
