Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer

After a few days of radio silence from his new post, Leon S. Kennedy drives to Raccoon City to scope things out. Unbeknownst to him, a nightmare awaits...

Chapter 1 - Raining Blood

Leon parked the car at the Mizoil gas station to refuel it for the remaining miles to Raccoon City. Raining cold outside, he tightened his blue jacket’s collar and took a deep breath.

He was about to report for duty at the Raccoon City Police Department, R.P.D, around early October, but he got a call a few days ago telling him to stay put. After that, nothing came through. He had a hunch that something went wrong, so he decided to go take a look. That’s why he was here.

“No one’s around? That’s weird.” He noticed a police car in front of him, with its door opened.

And bad luck has caught up on him already. He found out the oil tank was empty. Worse than empty, it was sabotaged and all the oil leaked. Who did that?

The rain was slowly clearing and the environment was deadly silent. Then, it was at this moment, Leon heard a glass-cracking noise coming from the gas station store.

The professionalism and righteousness urged him to check that out. Just a couple steps ahead he noticed the terrible stain of blood on the ground, trailing up to the store. That’s not good, he thought.

“Hello? Anybody there?” He carefully opened the store’s door and peeked inside.

The lights were out and he couldn’t see anyone in there. A turned-on flashlight was laying on the floor. He took it up and had a better look at the store. Goods on the shelves were a mess and blood was everywhere. Looked like there was a massacre.

“Something’s not right...”

Strange noises were coming from the storage behind the store, so Leon walked deeper with caution. Alongside the storage door was a bald security guard who’s covering his wounds on the neck with his hands.

“You all right?” He stepped up to the guy swiftly.

The guard’s blood was almost pouring out of his two small wounds on the neck. Leon tried but couldn’t stop the bleeding. Not before long the guard collapsed onto the floor with slower and slower breath.

Jesus. What did that? Some feral animal? But Leon didn’t have much time to piece the clues up. The noises coming inside the storage sounded like some people fighting. He needed to hurry up.

He raced through the corridor and pushed open the inner storage door. What’s inside was a police officer suppressing a blonde against the wall behind her with most of his strength. The blonde was roaring like a beast and using her claw-like fingers to scratch the officer’s shoulder.

“Officer, you need help?” Leon was ready to step up.

“Stay back, sir. I got this.” The officer confidently turned around and waved his hand to stop Leon approaching.

But he clearly underestimated the blonde’s strength. The moment his turned around, he was shoved down and pinned on the floor.

“Hey!” Leon yelled and brought ou his pistol, Matilda, “Get off him! Right now!”

In the officer’s struggle and scream, Leon witnessed a scene that he would never forget for the rest of his life - the blonde whipped her head back for a moment, letting out a fierce roar and revealing a pair of half-inch long fangs in her mouth, and bit down on the officer’s neck. Leon could hear the faintly gulping sound from the blonde’s throat. The officer’s face was paling and he gasped his last breath shortly.

“What the...”Leon, in great terror, aimed the gun at the blonde, “Freeze! I’ll shoot!”

The blonde released the officer’s corpse and stood up slowly. She wiped the blood on her mouth with her hand and stared at it briefly in shock. But soon she laughed out in delight and gazed on Leon.

“I feel...reborn! It’s amazing! You should have a taste of it, too!” The blonde’s red eyes locked on Leon’s and she kept approaching.

When his eyes met hers Leon felt dizzy and even a mild headache. He shook his aching head and tried to focus, “I said, freeze!”

“Don’t fight it, cute little boy. I can show it to you. It’s more wonderful than you think!” The blonde opened her arms and still approaching excitedly, with some devilish glow in her eyes, “My name is Katherine. You can become my favourite pet! I swear I’ll treat you nicely!”

Bang!

The bullet pierced her shoulder. Katherine stopped for a moment and looked down at the wound, of which not much of blood came out. What’s more shocking was that, right in front of their eyes, the wound healed up at a visible speed. In less than 5 seconds, the blonde shrugged her shoulders like nothing happened.

“Oh, that’s awesome! See? Why do you keep fighting? After I share this gift to you, you can be so much powerful, too!” Katherine smiled ferociously and licked her bloody fangs with her tongue. The distance between them was closing.

Shit, she’s definitely not human! Leon was holding the gun tightly and trying to figure out what to do.

He has only 9 more rounds in the Matilda and no more ammunition with him at the moment. The monster in front of him obviously has a crazy healing ability. He didn’t think bullets can kill her. After he used up the clip, he could do nothing.

Or he could turn around, get out of the storage and lock that monster inside. His car was parking just outside. He could drive off the station and look for help.
