"Halt." I said drawing on them.

"Who are you?" One said putting a hand on his sword.

"I was going to ask you the same thing."

"Where Kingsmen." One replied. They sure as hell didn't look the part. Maybe mercenaries hired by the crown.

"You must be stationed out of Everwood then."

"Yeah, that's the place." One nodded.

"Strange that you are all the way out here a hundred leagues from everwood then." I had grown up in the everwoods.

"Shoot him." One said and the other raised his crossbow. I fired and him in the shoulder sending him to the ground as he fell off his horse. His crossbow bolt whistled by me. The other turned his horse and came riding at me with sword drawn but he had taken to long to turn. I put an arrow through his sword arm making him drop his sword and drew my knife stabbing him in the thigh as his horse road past me. I rode to the woman who lied on the ground. I rode a good ways before I stopped.

"Are you okay, can you walk?"

"So can I go now?"

"No you stay. We will not kill you because of spirits. We will take your horse for now. We will heal our kindred and ask her what happened." The old woman said. They took my weapons and led me to a building. They at least brought me something that resembled alcohol and some food. I was pretty sure I couldn't drink much of their alcohol since it would have to be pretty damn strong to get them drunk because of their size. I thought it was strange that I saw no men. I watched them out the window but didn't see a single male anywhere. I could see an old mine shaft that went into a hill but it was overgrown with vines. This had to have been a mining camp at some point though the mine had dried up and the people left.

"I was glad I could help. Can I ask? Where are the men of your tribe?"

"All gone. The goblins attacked our camp with poisoned arrows. They died so that we might escape into these woods. Only we remain until we find or kindred. We camp here in the dirt diggers homes to hunt and gather food for our journey."

"I am sorry for your loss."

"You are kind which is why the spirits protected you. Will you join us for dinner and drink this night?" The medicine woman looked down.

"I don't know, I have people I need to get back to."

"Please. I owe you my freedom at least and my life at most." The one I had saved as she reached over putting her hand on mine and smiled.

"Very well." I agreed. I was sure the girls would be okay one night without me and had had to leave Felicia before so she could reassure Aurora I was coming back. I just hoped my dumb ass didn't make it a lie one day.
