Learning more about Kate

Kate took me around the whole clinic, showing me the lobby, the vending machine with the best candies, and the front desk where Louise was mysteriously missing. She also showed me the patient rooms, and talked about her job of getting people's vitals. She pretended to take my temperature and blood pressure, it was really cute to see her in her element. She was much more confident behind the scenes in the rooms then out in the lobby. She really has a strong interest in helping people and learning more about the human body.

"Well here's the last leg of the tour, the east wing, I hope you've enjoyed your time sorry there's no giftshop to exit through sir," Kate giggled.

"Wow I didn't realize that this was closer to a full blown hospital than just a clinic."

"Yeah, that's why I thought it would be a good fit since I want to be full time. I can't believe how close I am to actually being done with school..." Kate trailed off.

"Everything okay Kate?"

"Yeah, have you ever been so focused on a goal? Like that once you've accomplished it you'll feel, I don't know, fulfilled? To live the life you were supposed to live?"

"I can't say I have. I've really been aimless for a while, I want goals and to feel like I've done something to make a difference, but it's always eluded me."

"I've wanted to be a nurse forever, both my parents are in the medical field, my mom actually went to medical school with Dr. Kendall that's why she let me live out here with her. I've always been the quiet girl studying in the corner. Always so focused on doing well in school. I convinced myself that once I become a nurse I could start living my 'true' life. Maybe I'm just overthinking things."

"Look Kate, you clearly are more put together than me, so you don't have to take this advice, but I think you're so focused on that future that you're not enjoying things in the moment. Which means you may be overjoyed once you achieve your goal, or you may be resentful that you let other experiences fly by while working with blinders on. I think there is a way to have both, still plan for the future, but take the time to experience life as it is happening too."

"I guess I never thought of it that way. Thanks Dustin, I may have sacrificed one too many experiences in my utter devotion to this dream. It's going to be hard, but I am going to try to experience things in the moment as they happen and not be so worried about whatever comes next. Well that's all I really have to show you, unless you want to see Dr. Kendall's office? She's got a full exam room in there too!"

"Sure, I've got sometime!" I said following Kate to an office at the end of the hall.
