Lazarus Project 2.0

Shepard was not in a great condition. She was in and out of the ICU for weeks. Some progress was made there, some regression there. It was clear that Shepard wasn’t going to make it. At least not with the current procedures they were operating with. Jack went with Miranda as she was set to begin the Lazarus Project 2.0 the only way they could get Shepard a full recovery.

“Vitals are stabilizing,” Miranda said. “Heart is cooperating. The lazarus project will proceed as planned.”

“Hey… you need to rest,” Jack said as she wrapped her arms around Miranda.

“I’ll be fine. I can rest when Shepard’s awake,” Miranda said.

“Or you’ll die and miss our wedding,” Jack said. “Rest… I’ll watch her. It’s probably going to be a week or two more anyways.”

Miranda sighed. “Fine… only because I don’t want to miss our wedding.”

Jack and Miranda had moved in together but agreed that they would postpone the wedding until they knew the fate of Shepard whether it be positive or negative.

Miranda laid down on one of the medical beds. Miranda closed her eyes and almost instantly fell asleep. She had been so exhausted pulling multiple all nighters working on Shepard’s progress.

Jack sighed as she sat down on a chair between Shepard and Miranda. “Shepard… I need you,” she said. “I want you to be my best man… well… best woman… I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have. You have done so much for me and for her… so you have to come through and be there for her… so that I can be there for her.”

Jack could swear she saw Shepard smile, but figured it was just the adrenaline. Shepard was nowhere close to recovering.
