Lauren the stow away

Lauren was exhausted! And she was not going to expose herself to however many people were in there! Lauren looked around to make sure no one else was around. Then, mustering whatever strength she had left, Lauren sprinted to the truck and climbed in.

The first thing she noticed was that it was surprising cooler in here, even with the back open. She saw that the truck was filled with furniture and boxes; a delivery truck, maybe? Lauren then saw a bed in the back; it was hidden by a couple of wardrobes, so she almost missed it. Lauren smiled a little as she went to sit down on the bed. It was quite comfortable.

I’ll…just lay down for a minute. Lauren thought to herself as she laid down. The exhaustion from her three hour hike finally caught up to the little woman, and just as quickly as she laid down, she fell fast asleep.

“Twenty-five bucks? For a flipping hamburger?!” a woman – a tall and muscular red-head wearing a plaid flannel shirt and blue jeans – shouted in annoyance as she and her husband left the truck stop. “A steak? I can see that costing twenty-five dollars; but a burger?! How does this place stay in business?!”

“Carol, sweetie,” the man – a slim blonde wearing a blue t-shirt and a pair of white jeans – said, his voice filled with concern, “Remember what the doctor said about your blood pressure. You need to calm down.”

“This is highway robbery, Edward!” the woman, Carol, responded. “These jerks just have no respect for hardworking folks like you and me! Why, I ought to march right back in there and stuff this receipt right up the punk’s –“

“Carolyn Merriweather Watts!” Edward screamed. “You are to calm down right now! Yes, the junk food here is completely over priced; but I am not going to lose my wife because she popped a blood vessel over a. Stupid. HAMBURGER!”

Carol flinched as she saw Edward take deep, shallow breaths. Edward then inhaled and let out one last breath before clearing his throat.

“I’m sorry.” Edward said, “Here I am telling you to keep your temper, and I go and –“

“No, Ed; I should be apologizing.” Carolyn said sadly. “Here we are, taking the first big step in our new life, and I act like an ogre. You’re only looking out for my health and I keep going crazy over the stupidest of things! Maybe I am just crazy.”

“I’ll say you are.” Emily said with a smile.

“You’re not supposed to say that!” Carolyn grumbled, “And just tell me how I’m crazy!”

“Well, that’s simple.” Edward said, wrapping his arms around Carolyn’s neck and bringing his wife into a kiss. When they broke the kiss, Edward chuckled, “You agreed to be Mrs. Watts.”

“Well you were the one who brought that halftime show to a halt so you could give me that ring.” Carolyn said. She thought about what she said for a bit, chuckled, then added, “Good point.”

Edward chuckled again, then looked up to see the clock: four fifty-six.

“My goodness, is that really the time?” Edward asked in shock. “We're going to be late!”

The couple then walked over to the truck. When they got there, Edward noticed the open door in the back.

“Um, Carol did you leave the back open?” Edward asked.

“What?” Carolyn asked. When she went back to see what her husband was talking about, she discovered the back was wide open. “Aw, dang it!”

She pressed a button on the side and the truck’s hatchback started closing automatically. The couple then raced to the truck’s cab and got in; buckling themselves in.

“We’ll check later if we have everything still back there.” Carolyn said, starting the car.

And with that, the couple left the truck stop.

Unaware of their little stow away.

Lauren was still fast asleep, the hike having taken pretty much everything out of her. During her sleep, she felt a long series of bumps, but she still didn’t stir; nor feel a wet spot growing on her diaper. All she was doing right now was dreaming of a world that recognized her for the beautiful ice queen she was, instead of being eight miles away from her apartment in a diaper.

Little did Lauren know, however, that the number of miles were changing drastically; but she was getting farther away from her apartment.

But was it merely the opposite side of town? Or even farther away?
