Lauren loses.

Lauren looked at her cards and held back a frown. At best she managed a high card. She could only hope that maybe Rosie had a terrible hand too and that she could beat her out on a face to face. She looked at Rosie trying to figure out what she had. Perhaps Lauren could risk it and swap ALL of her cards for a possible clutch win? But what were the odds that the next set of cards would be any good?! Lauren nibbled her bottom lip as she looked, debating what to do. Rosie had a look of confidence, or maybe that was just Lauren being intimidated. Lauren sighed, she had to do it.

Lauren placed down all of her cards “Swap them all,” she said.

Rosie raised an eyebrow, but Lauren didn’t care. She had to do it. She had to hope for a better hand in order to keep her dignity in tact. Lauren looked at her new hand, now she had a 3 of a kind in queens. All she was missing was the Queen of Spades. She had to hope that it was enough. She had to hope that she could win.

Rosie smiled and shook her head. “So who should reveal first? You or me?” Rosie asked.

“You,” Lauren said.

“Okay, then,” Rosie said.

She placed down an ace of spades. Then she placed down the King of spades. As soon as that happened, Lauren’s face paled. No way. She couldn’t! Next came the 10 of spades and then the Jack of spades! And finally.... the queen of spades.

The ONE queen Lauren was missing! And Rosie had it in her hand! “So Lauren,” Rosie smirked. “Can you do any better than that? Or are we going to finally see what the great Ice Queen is actually made of?”

Lauren’s lip quivered.
