Lauren is the Player's new partner

Lauren waited in the reception area for the new recruit to finish his meeting with Director Snidely. She knew from experience that the director was a tough as nails taskmaster and that he wouldn't take any nonsense from anyone. Even now every time she had a meeting with him she got the jitters. To her surprise though the new recruit came out of the office and down the stairs looking just as cocky as he had when he first walked into the office. Does nothing faze this guy she wondered?

"I-am-an-idiot," she called across the office and waved at the new recruit to get his attention. He came over and stood before her, again giving her that looked that unsettled her so. "How did the meeting with the Director go, I know he can be scary, but he didn't get to where he is by letting anything get passed him."

"Yeah, he was a peach," the new recruit replied before handing her a memo, "He said I should give you this."

Lauren took the memo and quickly read it. "It says that I am now your partner and due to your outstanding academy record that I should differ to your judgement in all matters and assist in any way I can. That can't be right. I've been a full fledged agent for 5 year and have been primary on more cases than I can count."

"Well," began her new senior partner as he pulled her sidearm out of its holster and examined it without so much as a by-your-leave, "I am the player and you're just an NPC."

"Hey, give that back!" Lauren gasped as she looked from the pistol in his hand to her empty holster and back again. He seemed unmoved however and sat down.

"No," was his only reply and as she didn't want to make a further seen she dropped it. "Ok, fine, check it out. I was told to assist in any way I can I guess." She then thought about what he had called her. She thought she knew just about every acronym related to law enforcement, the military and intelligence, but she wasn't at all familiar with the one he had used. "What's an NPC anyway?"

Done looking at the pistol the new recruit looked back at her, "An NPC is a Non Player Character, it means your not controlled by a real person like I am and therefore have little free agency. In your case you're just here to give background and direct me toward this and that."

"That make zero sense. Are you for real?" Lauren had to ask, what he said was crazy.

"Why would I lie?" he asked in return.

"I don't know, but what you suggest is absurd. Maybe we should have the nurse take a look at your head?" Lauren suggested.

"Now you're being absurd, how can I be injured, the game has just started?" He laughed before coming to stand before her again, "Anyway, I want to move this along. I've only got a few hours here."

"A few hours? You're shift just started and our first case looks like it's going to require some serious overtime-" Lauren began but was once again cut off.

"Hey, what's your name again?" the man Lauren was beginning to think of as the most annoying partner ever asked.

"Well I-am-an-idiot, you should know who I am, we've already been introduced, but for the forgetful my name is Lauren Sarsgaard."

Her new partner thought for a moment before saying, "No, that won't do, you're name is Lauren Sucksgood."

Lauren just stared at him for a moment. "Yes, that's my name, Lauren Sucksgood, but you can call me Agent Sucksgood. Okay I-am-an-idiot?"

"Yeah, that's fine," he laughed again and then reached out and felt the material of her uniform. "Say, that's a nice unform," he then said.
