Later that night...

"And the look on those green fuckers face when I picked you up!" Karlach cackled, slapping her knee. "Pure disbelief!"

"I'm sure I didn't look exactly graceful myself," Shadowheart chuckled, still a bit embarrassed. "It's not often I get thrown over someone's shoulder!"

"That means you aren't living right, love!" The tiefling wryly countered.

After getting comfortably deep into the forest, and away from their goblin foes, the two girls had made a small camp at the mouth of a cave. While Shadowheart got warm by a fire and recovered from her exhausting day, Karlach went out and fetched some food. Her hunting method was certainly a bit unorthodox, but a quick battleaxe throw later and they had a deer to eat. The two were just finishing up their venison stew, finally chatting and getting to know each other.

"H-hey," the cleric muttered, putting down her bowl. "I just wanted to say... thank you. I think we both have a pretty good idea of what those goblins were planning. You risked your life for my sake when you didn't even know me. I don't remember ever being treated with such kindness in my life. So thank you, Karlach. Truly."

"Oh, don't get all sappy with me, love!" The tiefling whined playfully. "Being a hero is just in my blood, that's all! You're just another in a long line of damsels I've plucked from distress!"

"Okay, don't get too carried away with yourself," Shadowheart snarkily replied. "A real hero would have brought me something to cover up with!" It was true. The front of the half-elf's armor was still torn open, her breasts exposed. Despite her best attempts to keep an arm over it, it slipped away a few times. Karlach made no secret of taking the occasional peak.

"Hey, I think it's a good look on you!" The barbarian laughed. Karlach leaned over the fire to give her new friend a slap on the shoulder, but instead winced and recoiled. Her hand went to her side, tenderly rubbing her muscles.

"Wait, are you still injured?" Shadowheart asked, her cleric instincts kicking in.

"Oh, don't worry, soldier," Karlach tried to assure her, leaning back against the wall of the cave entrance. "Just a few arrow holes still working their way closed. Nothing I haven't dealt with a thousand times."

"Still, it wouldn't due for you to be so uncomfortable, after all your help," Shadowheart replied. "Earlier, I was healing you on the fly. Given the circumstances, it was not exactly my best work. I could give your wounds another pass. Maybe you can sleep a little easier."

Karlach raised a suspicious eyebrow. There was genuine concern in the cleric's voice, for sure. However, there was a certain coyness to her body language. Still, she was not going to pass up a free checkup, and she did not sense any ill intent.

Shrugging, Karlach smiled. "Hey, if you don't mind, I won't refuse. I could honestly get used to the hero's treatment."
