Chapter 24 by Caesar25 Caesar25

What's next?

Lars farm

You rent two speeders and head out to the Lars farm in the desert. The local farmers are moisture farmers, who use vaporators and sell the water to the city. Once at the coordinates, you spot an old man in a flying repulsorlift-powered chair coming towards you. You spot he is missing a leg, hence the chair.

The Lars moisture farm in the desert

Cliegg: How can I help you? Name is Cliegg Lars. This is my family's farm.

Aayla: We are looking for a woman, named Shmi Skywalker. We were told you bought her some years ago.

Cliegg (with deep sadness): I did... Shmi was my wife, I freed her. She died more than a year ago. You came here for nothing...

Lana: Dead...? How did she die?

Cliegg (pointing at his missing leg): Tusken raiders captured and killed her, I got away only without one of my legs..

Owen (coming out of the house): Who are you talking to father...? Oh, visitors. Hello, my name is Owen Lars, what business do you have on our farm?

Cliegg: They came looking for Shmi, just like his son did. But they weren't as lucky to succeed...

Aayla: So Anakin was here, wasn't he? Did he meet his mother?

Cliegg: He did just that...

Lana: Could you explain?

Owen: Anakin, my step-brother, came after Shmi was captured. He went after the Tuskens and managed to bring Shmi back but... She was dead...

Aayla: I am sorry.

Cliegg: She was killed by those mindless, barbaric schuttas! If I had both my legs, I would make sure to return the pain they had given me!

Aayla: Such hatred could devour you. You shouldn't morn her this way, **** won't bring her back.

Cliegg: I don't care! They would deserve to be killed for what they did to her!

Owen: Father, she has been gone for a long time now... You should have accepted her **** by now.

Cliegg: You stay out of this Owen! She meant more to me than you could imagine! She was the one who could fill in the void left behind by your mother after she died, and now I have lost Shmi too...! There is no justice on this damned planet... You and your friend should leave this dead rock as soon as you can.

He turns around and heads into the house.

Owen: Please, forgive him, he wasn't always like that... Shmi's **** changed him for the worse.

Aayla: It is understandable, grief is a natural part of our life, but we shouldn't live in the past. We all have to let go of our attachments once the time comes for somebody to go.

Owen: I know, but as you can see, father thinks otherwise... Would you like some water? Please, be our guests, we rarely have any visitors here.

Lana: Some fresh water would do us good!

Aayla: Thank you for your kindness and hospitality. We don't want to keep you from your work, we will get going quickly.

Owen: You may take your time, we don't have much to do these days, it's not harvest season yet.

Beru and Owen Lars

He takes you into the dining room. His wife, Beru is cooking something as you enter.

Beru: Hello! Owen! I have been telling you to paint the cellar for months now! We bring guests inside and they have to stare at that dirty cellar...!

Owen: She is Beru, my wife...

Aayla: Nice to meet you, Beru.

Beru: Feel yourselves at home, please sit down, what can I get you? Water, white milk, blue milk, anything else perhaps?

Aayla: Water will do just fine.

Lana: Blue milk? I have never tried that before!

Beru: It is very delicious, I'll bring you with a bottle!

The blue milk, produced by female Banthas, it was known for being very sweet and full of essential minerals, providing the best refreshment in the desert heat

Owen: Soo... Two young ladies out in the desert, looking for an old woman... What's your story ladies?

Beru: You are way too direct and indiscreet Owen!

Aayla: We were looking for Shmi Skywalker to free her. But apparently, we are too late.

Owen: Yes, I am sorry about that... She had a merry life here with father. You have my word, she was living happily here.

Aayla: I don't question your word, I'm glad she had some comfort at the end of her life.

Beru: Here, the water, I'll be right back, I just have to get the milk from the other room!

Lana: If it's trouble, water will do just fine!

Beru: Noo, don't be kidding, I'll get it for you!

Owen (after Beru left): Now than, we might talk real business...

Lana: Real business...?

Owen: Nobody just walks into a homestead and starts asking questions all of a sudden... Here, out in the desert everything has a price... I hope we can work something out... Just the three of us. I am sure you have a method to pay for your short stay and the intel you have received...

Aayla (whispering): I don't like this man... You should go and check on Beru and keep her busy, while I handle this matter here.

Lana (whispering): I too could handle him! Let me do this!

Who are you going to talk to?
