LANDALE AND SUSPICIONS PART 2 - AKI POV

Aki propels himself forward with unwavering determination, pushing his body to its absolute limits despite the treacherous dangers that await him on the western path. The lack of trust in Landale only intensifies, fueling his fear of leaving Yumi alone with him, as he senses the potential danger that could arise.

Aki's mind races with concerns about Yumi's weakened magical defenses without the shield. He can't shake the conviction that Landale may have already probed her mind the previous night, possibly without her awareness.

After ten minutes of relentless sprinting, Aki halts, taking a moment to carefully assess his surroundings. He realizes that he has reached a point beyond which he cannot venture. Understanding the importance of staying close to the others due to the imminent threats ahead, he silently admits, This is as far as I can go. I wish I could continue, but I mustn't create too much distance between us. Based on my observations of the three potential ambush points, it is highly likely that this location is where the next attack will occur.

Crouching down, Aki prepares to lay a Symbol of Detonation, but a different plan begins to take shape in his mind. With utmost precision, he places a Symbol on the ground and imbues it with the Web spell, strategizing, Our success hinges on gathering prisoners for interrogation. We must obtain vital information about the impending attack by the Goblin Boss.

Carefully camouflaging the symbol with leaves and dirt, Aki retraces his steps, sprinting back along the path. Just as he is about to establish a Telepathic Bond to contact Yumi once again, a sudden movement in his peripheral view catches his attention - a massive creature charges towards him.

Reacting with lightning reflexes, Aki swiftly ducks, narrowly evading the creature's attack. Taking a deep breath, he stands his ground, facing the fearsome beast before him.

The manticore stands tall, with the body of a lion, wings of a bat, and a tail adorned with deadly spines, emanating an aura of danger and ferocity.

The manticore lunges forward, propelled by its powerful wings, attempting to unleash its deadly spines upon Aki. Swift and agile, Aki evades the ****, skillfully dodging the lethal projectiles. With a flick of his wrist, he conjures a swirling gust of wind, aiming to disrupt the manticore's balance.

Seizing the opportunity created by the gust, Aki utters an incantation, conjuring a swirling orb of fire in his hand. With unwavering focus, he hurls the blazing projectile at the manticore, watching as it streaks through the air with searing intensity.

The fiery orb connects with its mark, engulfing the manticore in a raging inferno. Roaring in pain and fury, the creature thrashes about, desperately trying to extinguish the flames that consume its body. The heat intensifies, weakening the manticore's defenses.

Dividing his attention between evading the creature's relentless attacks and maintaining his own offensive maneuvers, Aki harnesses his vast magical prowess. He weaves a protective shield around himself, bolstering his defenses against the manticore's onslaught. Swift and precise, he counterattacks with lightning-fast sword strikes, each blow infused with his arcane power. The manticore roars in agony as the enchanted blade rends deep into its flesh.

Undeterred, the wounded manticore launches itself into the air, its wings propelling it towards Aki with astonishing speed. Sensing the imminent danger, Aki concentrates his energy, releasing a powerful spell—a thunderous blast that shatters the surrounding silence. The shockwave crashes into the manticore, momentarily stunning the creature mid-flight.

Seizing the fleeting opportunity, Aki springs into action, displaying agility and grace that rival the manticore's wingspan. With precision honed through years of training, he prepares to deliver a decisive blow. But before he can strike, something lunges at his blind side, propelling him to the ground.

Aki's protective shield shatters under the surprise onslaught. Lifting himself off the ground, he looks up to see a second manticore growling at him. He winces as pain courses through his torso, feeling the ache of his broken ribs. Even worse, he catches a glimpse of the first manticore shaking off the effects of the shockwave.

Together, the two manticores bare their fangs towards Aki.

Aki rolls his eyes and groans as he hears the sound of bows being drawn.

Oh great. Two manticores and, now, Goblin archers? So it was a trap. The goblins knew we had to send someone ahead to scout for ambush points, Aki realizes. An idea flashes in his mind as survival instincts kick into overdrive - retreating to the symbol of Web he deployed in the clearing.

Spinning on his heels, he races away just in the nick of time, narrowly avoiding a barrage of arrows that pelt the spot he had occupied seconds ago. The Goblin's wicked laughter echoes through the air, but it is drowned out by the menacing growls of the two manticores pursuing him.

Just then, while he is running, he senses someone using the Scrying spell to observe him. Knowing that goblin shamans cannot use the Scrying spell, Aki knows it could only be Landale. He promptly allows the scrying spell to view him.

Glancing back, Aki witnesses the manticores closing in. Reacting instinctively, he unleashes a scorching ray, halting one of the manticores in its tracks. He then drops to the ground, evading a swift aerial attack from the other manticore. Rising to his feet, he wields his enchanted sword, refusing to succumb to his injuries and determined to engage the creatures. However, the manticore's spiked tail keeps Aki at a distance, thwarting his attempts to deliver a decisive blow.

The two manticores circle around, their menacing growls intensifying as they eye their wounded prey.

Despite the searing pain in his broken ribs, Aki locks eyes with the manticores, his gaze unyielding. Glancing back, he spots the clearing where he deployed the symbol with the Web spell.

The goblin archers have already taken position there, their bows drawn taut and ready, Aki mutters, his frustration mounting.

Deploying the Web now would be futile; their arrows are about to be unleashed, Aki realizes with a sinking feeling.

But in the face of despair, a surge of unwavering determination courses through his veins. He swiftly erects a barrier behind him, his mind racing to find a solution. Facing the two manticores, he prepares for his final stand, refusing to yield without a fight.

"The moment they let loose their arrows, I'll deploy the web. If I die, at the very least, Yumi will have someone to interrogate," Aki thinks, accepting his fate.
