Krissy make it onto the bus

The intercom crackled to life, announcing the imminent departure of the bus bound for the city. The raspy voice of the driver beckoned the few passengers waiting to begin boarding. Krissy's heart rate spiked. This was it; she was on the precipice of a new life.

She gathered her meager belongings, a small bag with just a few essentials, and stood up.

As she approached the bus, the driver, a middle-aged woman with short-cropped hair and a no-nonsense attitude, checked her ticket and welcomed her aboard. Krissy climbed the few steps, her heart still pounding in her chest. She sat near the middle, hoping it would be the least conspicuous spot.

The bus's interior was almost empty. She found a window seat and settled in, her bag safely on her lap.

The engine roared to life, and with a jolt, the bus started moving, leaving the small town behind. Krissy glanced out of the window and saw the shrinking silhouette of the bus station, the lecherous old clerk now just a speck in the distance.

As her hometown's buildings and landmarks disappeared, she felt relief at escaping but also apprehension about the unknown that lay ahead.

Krissy leaned back in her seat, watching the landscape change outside her window.
