Krissy decides to ignore both offers for protection

Krissy spent the night in her cell mulling over the offers made by Officer Daniels and the woman with the scar. Both propositions gnawed at her, and she knew deep down that neither choice was really safe. She could do this by herself.

During breakfast, Krissy kept to herself, her thoughts as cold and solid as the prison walls surrounding her. When Officer Daniels made his rounds, his eyes searched for her, a question in his gaze. Krissy looked down to avoid his gaze. The message was clear: she would not be taking his offer. Daniels' eyes narrowed for a moment, then he moved on, his expression returning to an indifferent mask.

Later, in the common area, the woman with the scar approached Krissy again, flanked by her usual entourage. “Changed your mind yet, newbie?” she sneered.

Krissy shook her head. “I don’t need your kind of protection. I can take care of myself.”

A murmur rippled through the group. The woman's eyes flashed with anger, then she let out a harsh laugh. “Have it your way cunt, but watch your back.”
