Chapter 10 by CharlestheCrungo

What happens after the soldiers leave?

Knock knock, is anyone home?

After Captain Maynard and her team were gone, Julie ended up huddling in the corner of one of the rooms, a blanket wrapped around her and her new pistol in her hands. She felt drained.... And with a deep sense of regret. She should have gone with them, but instead she was hiding here like a coward. Sure she might have just hindered the Captain's mission but.... At least she would not be alone anymore. Having human contact dangled right in front of her and then yanked away hurt her more than she would thought, and she couldn't stomach this situation anymore.

With a heavy sigh, Julie contemplated once more her plan to head east... While she could wait here for a rescue team to arrive, Julie felt staying for much longer in this one place would drive her crazy. Now that she had this pistol she felt her chances of survival were much higher, so maybe it could work out? Making her decision quickly, she started packing up some supplies... When she heard a loud thump come from the below.

Julie froze in fright, looking down and waiting. Was that just her imagination? Another louder thump sounded out from a bit further away, and then another. Soon she realized it was the footprints of something very large moving around below. She hoped to god that whatever it was it would leave. While this was a safe house, if a Pseudosect found it, others would get attracted to her and eventually one would get in. In a slight panic, she continued swiftly shoving her things into her backpack, and in her haste.... Dropped a heavy can of soup on the floor, it landed with a loud bang. Julie froze.... Please, let it have not noticed that!

The thumping stopped... Julie's heart was beating... And then the thumping resumed, but faster! She could hear crashing now, as if the walls were being smashed in. Julie rushed to the back of the safe room and hid, her pistol out and pointed it at the safe room door. The thrashing below too on a fever pitch, getting closer.... When BAM!... Something heavy slammed into the door. It was thick reinforced steel, but it dented from whatever hit it. Another blow rang out, and another.... And another! Julie felt tears welling up as the door slowly broke, begging whatever god or higher power the door holds...

Well? Does the Door hold?
