King and Queen!

The next half hour zoomed by with more dancing and laughing. Becky made sure to check on Noah and he assured her he was fine. He was surprised to get a compliment on the punch every few minutes from one of the other students as the night drew closer to a close.

Noah was dancing with Courtney and Pari when the DJ's voice boomed through the speakers again. "Alright, everyone gather 'round! Time to announce your Prom King and Queen!"

The students formed a loose circle around the DJ booth as Mr. Davis returned, looking tired but satisfied that the Tony situation was handled.

"And your Prom King is... Jacob Matthews!"

The crowd erupted in cheers as Jacob's face flushed red. He looked genuinely surprised as his theatre friends pushed him toward the stage. Noah clapped along with everyone else, watching his best friend accept the plastic crown with an awkward wave.

"And now, in what might be the biggest landslide victory in our school's history, your Prom Queen is... Noelle!... It just says, Noelle?"

Noah's world tilted sideways as Becky squealed beside him. "Oh my god, I knew it! Go up there!"

"What?" Noah squeaked. "But-!"

Madison pushed him forward, "Go on, the people have spoken!"

In a daze, Noah found himself being guided to the stage. Noah was flabbergasted that he was standing in front of his graduating class in a dress as Mr. Davis placed a sparkly tiara on his head. Jacob stood beside him, grinning broadly as the crowd continued to cheer.

"And now, the traditional King and Queen dance!"

The opening notes of a slow song filled the gymnasium as Jacob led Noah back to the dance floor. The other students formed a circle around them, phones raised to capture the moment.

"I can't believe this is happening," Noah whispered in embarrassment as Jacob's arms encircled his waist.

"Me either," Jacob replied softly.

Noah's heart nearly stopped as he looked back up at Jacob realizing that he wasn't talking about the vote. As they swayed to the music, everyone else disappeared leaving just Jacob's eyes. Noah didn't know what sparked it, or why he would ever do something like it, but he placed a delicate hand behind Jacob's head and pulled him down. Noah placed a kiss on Jacobs's cheek and held him there until he noticed the cheering and applause from the audience that he remembered existed. Jacob looked overjoyed while Noah blushed nearly as red as the lipstick on Jacob's cheek.

Other couples gradually joined them on the dance floor as the song continued, Noah catching glimpses of faces in the crowd. Courtney watched thoughtfully, Becky and her friends filming on their phones, even Sarah giving him a small nod of acknowledgment.
