Keep walking

For a second, the idea is REALLY tempting.

The hidden stretch of beach sits almost completely dark behind the dunes while the sound of the ocean covers everything around you. With the rest of the shoreline traffic staying closer to the bars and pier lights farther down the coast, it would honestly be very easy to disappear down there with her for a while.

And judging by the look in Jane’s eyes?

She knows that too.

But eventually you laugh quietly under your breath before sliding your hands gently around her waist.

“You are a terrible influence,” you murmur.

Jane grins immediately. “That’s not a no.”

“It’s a very cautious no.”

She groans dramatically while letting her forehead fall lightly against your chest.

“You’re ruining my beach movie fantasy.”

“You mean the one where we get arrested?”

“We would not get arrested.”

“You literally picked the hidden dune area.”

“It was romantic,” Jane argues proudly.

You laugh softly while brushing a few strands of hair back behind her ear.

The fact she even suggested it already has your brain struggling enough.

Then after another second, she looks back toward the hidden beach again before sighing dramatically.

“…Okay maybe getting caught would actually be horrifying.”

“Thank you.”

“But the idea was good.”

You shake your head while laughing under your breath before pulling her back against your side again.

The two of you continue farther along the shoreline path afterward while the ocean crashes steadily below beside the sand.

The mood stays lighter now.

More playful again.

At one point Jane keeps bumping her hip against yours while walking until you finally look down at her suspiciously.

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing.”

“That’s a lie.”

She grins innocently afterward before doing it again anyway.

A few minutes later she suddenly stops near the railing overlooking the beach below.

“Oh my god wait,” Jane says immediately.

You glance over.

Farther up near the street corner sits a small grocery market with glowing lights still on inside despite the late hour. Outside near the entrance are stacked bundles of firewood beside coolers and camping supplies.

And instantly your brain connects the dots too.

Jane slowly turns toward you with the most dangerous excited expression imaginable.

“No,” you say immediately.

“Yes,” she replies instantly.

“It is absolutely too late for whatever idea you’re having.”

“We could totally do a bonfire.”

“You say that like it’s simple.”

“It IS simple,” Jane argues while already grabbing your hand and pulling you toward the street. “We buy snacks. We buy wood. Boom. Romantic beach bonfire.”

“You’ve thought about this before.”

“Obviously.”

You laugh quietly while letting her drag you toward the store anyway.

And honestly?

Watching her get excited about little things like this might actually be one of your favorite parts of loving her.
