Katie finds a sharp edge, and starts trying to cut herself free

Katie wondered if her luck was changing when she felt the sharp edge she was looking for. She ran her fingers along it, judging the extent of it.

It was right at the bottom of the drain pipe, a little too low for to reach it easily, and wasn't very sharp, but it would have to do. She'd just have to contort herself until she could reach the edge, and if it took her a long time to get free, well, she had the time.

Katie squirmed and shifted as best she could until she had the bonds around her wrists positioned against the sharp drainpipe edge.

When her hands were where she wanted them, Katie prepared by taking a couple deep breaths, and then started sawing her bonds.

The position she was in **** Katie to reach up slightly in order to reach the edge, meaning she was applying upward pressure to the flimsy drainpipe. Perhaps she was too tired after a stressful night of bondage, or perhaps it was just too flimsy for the purpose, but whatever the reason, barely had she begun sawing at her rope when the drainpipe broke, the end flying off with a cracking sound.

Katie indulged a fantasy about beating the burglar to ****, then opened her eyes and surveyed the damage, hoping that by focusing on looking for anything good in her ongoing predicament, she could stop herself from crying again.

The broken piece of pipe, roughly the final foot or so at the end, lay next to her. She studied it, then the broken part that was still attached to the wall. Maybe this would still work, she thought. She might be able to prop the broken piece against the wall and hold it in place with her own body weight while she cut her bonds off. And when the pipe broke, it had probably created another sharp edge higher up on the wall and easier for her to reach.

Katie sat up, measuring the pipe in relation the position of her bound hands behind her back. It might work. If there was a sharp edge, she should be able to reach it.

So, what was she going to do, use the broken piece of pipe, or the piece still attached to the wall?
