Karai Arrives

It was ten minutes later and the noodles were almost done.

Instead of just using the door like a normal person, Karai took to the fire escape, opening the window with ninja stealth.

April commended the attempt. She made less sound than thought humanly possible, but April's intuition was literally superhuman. Years of honing it made it impossible to sneak up on her. Good thing too, because if she did surprise her, it would break her concentration and it would just create a big mess. Instead of calling her out, she waited patiently for when her wife snuck up behind her and wrapped her arms around her torso from behind.

"Hey," said Karai.

"Hey," April answered back.

"Smells good."

"Thanks. We were low on ginger, but I think I made it worked."

"I wasn't talking about the food," retorted Kara as she rested her chin in April's shoulder. April blushed a little. It was a little corny, but it was still nice to hear. "But really, it looks great. But do you think it'll be enough?"

"Why? Are we expecting company?"

"Not if I have anything to say about it. I'm just asking. You're eating for two you know."

"Karai, it hasn't even been a month. I don't think we'll have to be worrying about that for a little while longer."

Imagine April's surprise after saying "yes" when Karai proposed to her that Karai wanted kids. At first she thought she was joking, but the kunoichi was actually being serious. Not that April wasn't open to the idea, she just never pictured Karai as the motherly type.

Sure they were both women, but one can do amazing things with the power of science, and since Karai was basically rich, they could afford an in vitro procedure no problem.

Karai was certain she couldn't have kids since, in her words, her mutations made her a "genetic tire-fire" and it would be a waste of DNA to try and get herself fertilized. This was based more on her gut than anything concrete. It wasn't like they could just go to any doctor and ask for a second opinion. Literally the only person who could give her a reliable answer was Donatello, and Karai wasn't interested in going to him about this. While they are on good terms, there was still this underlying current of awkwardness considering she married his crush. Plus, no woman would want to have their own brother as their gynecologist.

April was a mutant too, but Kirby was proof that she was human enough to have kids the normal way. One procedure and a few dollar store pregnancy tests later and the two of them are on their way to having a baby.
