Red, having completed the Kantonian Pokedex and claiming the title of Pokemon champion, was making his way up the treacherous Mt. Silver in search of the mythical Pokemon Mew. Along the way however he encountered a pidgeot with an urgent letter from Professor Oak:

Red, something is happening in Cerulean City. I received a letter from Misty explaining an odd structure appearing in the middle of the city, but none of my following inquiries have been answered. Would you be willing to put your search on hold to check up on them?

Red tucked the letter away before grabbing a pokeball from his belt and tossing it in the air. In a rush of wind and fire Charizard circled around, scooped up Red, and steered toward the direction of Cerulean City.
