Juvenile Attire

It doesn't take long for me to see the fruits of my labor. Just like with the pigtails, Christina's clothing changed before I even fully looked up from my notebook. Where she had before been wearing a fashionable top and jeans, now they were replaced by a white shirt underneath a pair of light pink overalls with 'Princess Power' in glittery letters across the front. Her pigtails, which before were done up with simple hairbands, now have pink ribbons tied in them, giving her the appearance of a girl in elementary school at oldest. Only her older face and the scowl now plastered on it ruin the image.

Christina reaches up and tugs on the strap of her overall, "Dammit, I hate this thing. I hope this fad dies soon so I can go back to wearing real clothes."

"Well, what's stopping you?" I ask her.

Christina looks at me like I just asked her to strip naked, "I still have my self-respect, Nick! I don't know why everyone is so into petite women all of a sudden, but I am not going to let men mistake me for a whore like her."

I follow her finger to the petite businesswoman from before. In terms of attire, nothing seems different about the woman, as she's still dressed in her business skirt, heels, and blazer. However, the top few buttons of her blouse are undone, giving a hint of her barely-there cleavage, and her makeup seems a bit heavier than I remember it being last time I looked at her. As I watch, a man who doesn't look much older than me approaches her. I can't make out what they're saying from where Christina and I are sitting, but the man's smirk and open wallet says enough. The businesswoman nods, then closes her laptop and places it in her bag before picking it up and following the man to the restrooms.

"Unbelievable," Christina says under her breath, "I can't imagine why anyone would actually want to sell themselves like that."

"I heard petite women can make a lot of money as prostitutes nowadays," I say, turning back to face her.

"Yeah, well money isn't everything," Christina grumbles, taking another sip of her drink.

"Everything okay here?" I hear a voice ask with a slight lisp. The blonde waitress, the other petite woman that I spotted earlier, was standing at our table. With the majority of her front covered by the cafe apron, I couldn't make out much of her outfit underneath, but I definitely don't remember her wearing a pink t-shirt, nor the eyes of the cartoon horse that are peeking up over the apron's top hem. Like Christina, her hair is done up in ribbons, though the waitress' were green to match her apron. However, the most eye-catching accessory are the metal wires that adorn her teeth and are more than likely the cause of her lisp.

"Yeah, we're fine," Christina says, barely paying the girl any mind.

Being my curious self though, I couldn't help but say to the waitress, "Hey, I've been in here several times before, but I've never noticed you had retainers before."

"That's because they're new," she says, "Well, sorta. They're the retainers I usually wear at night, but I started wearing them full-time again to look more childish, since my manager said she didn't want people hitting on me at work."

"I see," I say with a smirk.

"Well if there's nothing else, I'll leave you to your drinks," she lisps, before wiping a bit of spittle from her lips and walking off. As she does, I can't help but notice that she was now wearing colorful velcro sneakers on her feet, and that the bottoms of them flashed with bright lights with every step she took. My little social experiment seems to have had far-reaching consequences that I didn't consider before. But I had to admit, it was actually kind of fun to see these changes in action.
