Iolani Palace, Five-0 Task **** HQ

Since Hawaiian Police Officer Kono Kalakaua had returned to the islands as a national hero things were looking up for her. Kono had left the islands in the first place to pursuit and dismantle a sex trafficking ring. It took her three years but the ring was destroyed and its members were taken down. Through sheer determination Kono single handily broken down the ring from its smugglers to its leaders and freed the sex slaves. She became a national hero seemingly overnight though the journey had been three years in the making. After all the media hype Kono decided to finally return home. She missed the islands and turned down job offers with the FBI and Interpol to do so. Back in Hawaii she still had her position with the Honolulu Police Department waiting for her but Governor Keiko Mahoe had other ideas.

The elite and famed Five-0 Task **** had been led by Detective Danny Williams since Commander Steve McGarret had stepped down. Danny Williams had retired from HPD due to injury a little before Kono had made her return to Hawaii. Governor Mahoe thought it was fitting for Kono to take the helm as she was a former member and now a hero to the islands. Kono accepted the offer and became the third leader of the task ****. Her new team was a mix of the old and the new. Most of the current task **** had disbanded after Danny had left. Captain Lou Grover had retired from the **** shortly after Danny had left. Lincoln Cole who had been slated to take Danny’s spot had taken an offer with the CIA. Junior Reigns was called back to the Navy while Adam Noshimuri branched out and started his own private security company called Black Edge Security. Adam and Kono had also linked back up, the two never really officially divorcing. The spark between the two was still there and they gotten back together pretty easily. The only members that were left on the task **** when Kono jumped back on was HPD Officer Tani Rey and Army Criminal Investigator Quinn Liu.

Kono ran the task **** with Tani and Quinn for a few months before she got Catherine Rollins to return as her second-in-command. Cat had recently returned to the island with her new husband Steve McGarret, ready to finally settle down. Steve having enough of law enforcement decided to go to work for Adam’s Black Edge Security as a consultant. He spent his most of his downtime with Danny and Lou. Lori Weston another former member of the task **** soon joined back on afterwards after being wrangled away from a lucrative private sector job by Kono. The last member to join the new task **** was Abby Dunn. Abby had returned to the islands a little after Kono had. She and her husband, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono’s cousin had been in San Francisco running a task **** that was similar to Five-0. Chin was offered a position with the HPD as the Chief of Detectives and took the offer to return to the islands taking his wife and niece back with him. Abby jumped at the opportunity to re-joined Five-0 when Kono offered her last team slot.

It took nearly six months but Kono finally had Five-0 where she wanted it. They were handling a good amount of cases and per Chin had the highest clearance rate of any law enforcement unit on the island. Things were starting to feel normal as it had felt before she left the islands. Kono felt good being the boss, she was made for it and was glad she had her chance. Life was good, she had her dream job, her marriage was back on track and most importantly she was home.

Kono looked up from the reports she was finalizing and signing off from her team’s closed cases from the week before when there was a knock on the glass door to her office, Steve’s old office. Entering the office was Cat and Abby. “Morning boss,” Cat greeted as the pair entered the spacious corner office. Cat Rollins was a petite dark-haired athletically slender woman. Her long dark hair was tied back into a ponytail while she was dressed in a dark colored sleeveless top over dark tight fitting trousers tucked in laced up boots completed her look. She did not wear her sidearm but had her badge clipped to her belt. Cat usually ran team operations from HQ. Following Cat was Abby, the blonde haired Californian was just a year older than Kono at forty-seven and was the oldest member of the task ****. Since she was helping Chin raise his niece like her own she was the only mother on the team. The younger members including Kono often came to her for advise personal and professional, she had that mother-bear like quality to her. Abby wore her shoulder length hair loose and was dressed in button-up flannel top with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, tucked into fitted blue jeans with brown heeled boots to finish her outfit. Her sidearm and badge clearly clipped to her belt.

Not sure what two of her team members were doing in her office Kono smiled and asked, “What’s up guys?”

“I got a message from the DEA earlier this morning they have an informant on the island that got a thumb drive with evidence on it that is to be used in a federal case. They wanted us to meet the contact in retrieve the drive. We are to hold on to it until the DEA could get an agent out here to pick it up.”

Kono getting ready to stand wondered if choosing to wear a pants suit that day was a bad idea if she was getting ready to do some running around. Since she taken command of Five-0 she started to wear tailor fitted pants suits with pricey heels. It was not really her style but Adam made the money from his business and after her time working with the FBI she had just grown accustomed to wearing a suit. It was like how Danny had grown out of wearing a tie when he started working in Hawaii. The more Kono took her position as a leader more seriously the more she felt comfortable in a suit. For the day she was in gray suit with black top underneath and black stiletto heels. Adam’s money had gotten her the outfit like most of her materialistic possessions and the price was more than she would ever like to disclosed. Her sidearm sat snug at the small of her back hidden by her jacket.

Abby stepped up before her boss and cousin-in-law could stand, “Cat and I met with the informant this morning,” Abby pulled a small thumb drive from her back pocket. “I got the drive.”

“Okay good,” Kono leaned back in her executive seat. “What’s the plan now? We wait?”

“Yeah, pretty much,” Cat replied. “DEA said they should have an agent here by end of business today. They just want us to make sure we have the drive ready for them.”

“Sounds simple enough...” Kono mulled it over for a beat and then asked with a raised eyebrow. “I’m guessing its not simple since you two are here?”

“The informant was an HPD uniform officer...they mentioned the data on the thumb drive will link the DEA to members of the HPD,” Abby then pointed out.

“I knew there was something more than this when the DEA contacted me at home...and they were real insistent on Five-0 taking care of this and not the HPD,” Cat chimed in. “It’s why I looped Abby in with me.”

“Crap...” Kono muttered. “Did you look at the data yet?” She then asked Cat who on top of being the team’s number two was also the team’s techie.

“I did. There are some big names on there.”

“Have you looped Chin in on this yet?” Kono then asked looking back at Abby.

Abby shook her head, “I work for you, Chin is my husband. With that being said I wanted to check with you first before I say anything to him. Some names on this drive are some of his detectives.”

Kono thought for a bit and then gestured her two investigators to a seat, “Okay let’s have the names and whatever else is on that drive.”
