Does anything else happen tonight?

Just a good night's rest

Hermione woke up on Thursday morning, her stomach twisting just thinking about what would be happening this afternoon.

As she walked down the breakfast past Dumbledore's empty portrait, a sudden thought occurred to her. She doubled back.

"Um... Dumbledore?" She asked, hoping to make this quick.

"Hello Hermione," Dumbledore greeted. "And how are you this morning?"

"I'm alright, I guess, but I wanted to ask you something quickly..."

"Ask away," he replied kindly.

"Well... You said you had a portrait in the great hall, so that means you saw the..." She paused, because she didn't know if Dumbledore would be upset with her or not for making an unbreakable vow.

"You made an unbreakable vow, yes," Dumbledore answered, solemnly. "An unusual event, considering the protective spell on you. I'm surprised you consented to it."

"That's just wanted I wanted to ask, professor... I asked that we simply not ruin each other's reputation when we do the polyjuice task, and I was prepared to consent to being a pet for 24 hours. But when I tried to think about things, I couldn't. It was like my mind got full of fog... It was hard to think, you know I wouldn't normally have consented to swear that I'd never touch the room of requirement or even risk dying if I break the vow!"

Dumbledore's brow furrowed. "You say that this risk is one you wouldn't consent to, even in your heart of hearts?"

Hermione took a deep breath and swallowed. "Professor... When I looked into the Mirror of Erised, I saw my embarrassment as a pet. Not risking my life."

Dumbledore paused. "I... I have theories. But I am not certain of anything yet. I'll find you when I have figured it out. At any rate, Hermione, I suggest you eat and ready yourself. At the stroke of noon, you are in for a rough time. Just know that you will come out through safely."

And on that note, Dumbledore left the portrait, leaving Hermione naked and even more confused than she had been before.
